position of front forks through fork clamp

I have a question and was hoping someone could

I have assembled my Daytona RS after after
being off the road for some time. However, I failed to mark the
position of the front forks in the fork clamps before dismantling,
and now I am having trouble finding the correct positioning. The
result is noticeable under steer/over steer around bends. I have
changed position a few times, but judging by the way the bike feels
around bends - I am still way off the mark. Currently, I have the
gap between the top of the fork, and the top of the top fork clamp,
at 14mm, but clearly, still not correct. I really want my magical
neutral steering back. Is anyone aware of the correct distance?
