Hi,
My condolences to the wife and family of Ryan Shay.
On the 23rd December 2006, my son Ben, a soccer player and surfer died of a heart attack at 31.
I would like to ask if Ryan Shay was in the habit of consuming diet soda prior to his death?
My son was consuming a can of cola when he died. I have not been able to ascertain if it was diet cola.
Google aspartame, the sweetener in diet soda, and you will never drink diet soda again. Here is a link to start with. http://www.listener.co.nz/issue/3512/features...
This information will not bring Ben or Ryan back but it may prevent further deaths.
regards
Pat.
Perhaps your son's surfer lifestyle and associated drug use played into his death? The cola is just a red herring....it has led you off the trail.

diet soda ?? omg. you can do better than that. discuss it with a doctor and other health care professionals.
Your response shows your lack of knowledge. I am a R.N. Many articles have been written on the horrible problems diet sodas have caused. I have a doctor friend that started having seizures, numbness in his hands, increased blood pressure. The only difference in his life was the new soda machine in his office. He had started consuming 4-6 diet sodas a day. All his signs and symptoms disappeared within a week after stopping the consumption of diet sodas. His colleagues gave him grief for his observations. The fact is when he did a self trial of consuming the diet sodas again the symptoms returned. Open yours eyes and ears. Many health care professionals are driven by the all mighty dollar. I would want all avenues of testing done if this was my spouse, friend etc. including "was he the victim of foul-play?" Death is hard enough when you have all the answers.

My thoughts and prayers go to this young man's wife, family and friends. What a shock. I thought indigenious people (Australian Aborigines) died young from heart attacks. Only last week a 42 year old business man died after exercising outdoors here in Sydney and that was young. I hope your government is supportive to the wife and family. God be with you.

Yes it is true about aspartame, the artificial sweetner, it is toxic and deadly to our bodies. let's ensure our kids eat foods as close to nature as possible as God intended. let's educate our youth about nutrition. We owe them that.

No question. Everyone loves life. Have you thought about it? That is why the homeless, bums do not commit suicide no matter how depressing unfair life is. People prefer to live.
Not everyone. Bums do commit suicide. So do other people. Lots of people hate life but don't commit suicide.

Same with peanut butter. Are we going to discourage patients from consuming that? Sensitivities can occur with anything. What do you tell your diabetic patients that are fighting compliance? Who needs limbs and eyesight when diet soda is so bad for you?

No doubt he had a few warnings before the biggy.

May we all heed the little voices of our bodies. It would'nt hurt any of us to get a physical.

Maybe we can nip it in the bud.. OR so I hope...

Blessings to all..
