all ktm 300-E are not like that, you can buy the same bike next time, and you might have no problems with it at all.It depends on just the place where that particular bike was built. It is just a factory miss- take. There are always bikes like that i bought a kx125 and i have put thousands in to it in the past month (gearcase, clutch plates, cylinder head, piston and rings, sparplugs) and my friend has the exact same bike even the same year and he has had no problems in the past year or more

I purchased a new ktm 300 xc-w e for riding in the northwest woods mainly washington state after owning and riding my 2002 520 exc in the sportsman over 50 class. It[the 2008 300] has not been riden but four times 35 miles at a time but what a sweet ride it is.I ballenced the suspension front to rear,, set the float level because it belched some fuel out when on the sidestand or if I accidentally left the fuel on when the bike was riding in the rear of the truck, moved the needle down three clicks from stock, and that made the 2008 300 run very crisp with no blubering.I added two teeth at the rear sprocket and a fmf Q forestry aproved muffler and the bike rips in the woods and turns corners like nothing!!Wow what a fun ride! I use the electric start like it was originally made to use ;a,restarter and it works fine" but use it harshley and it will not work very well".It is very easy to kick start even with my bad knee and bad hip"41 years of riding and racing" 6 foot 3 255 lbs 54 years old.Contact me if u have any quiestions i can help with. Keep riding and keep the trails and racing going!!!! Bondo Bob ktmrider@comcast.net

i have a 2009 250exc-e and it's a fantastic bike-apart from the starter motor, the brushes chewed out and even after replacing them,it no longer works properly,it just doesn't have the initial punch to engage the starter gear now,a replacement starter motor is around 400aud,which it seems i'll have to part with now.damn thing. Anyway-tourque specs for the cylinder head flange bolts is 27Nm,the cylinder base nuts is 35Nm

I'm planning to buy a 2010 ktm-300xc,all modern ktm's are great bikes.a little piece of advice on the 2-stroke starters, you have to lay the bike down on its right side take the starter cover off "be careful not to lose the gasket" and pour a small amount of 10weight inside without getting any on the starter wires, actually you could use some silicone to coat the exsposed wires with and after thats totally dry then pour about 3oz. of the 10w.oil in and put the gasket back on with a very little amount of gasket sealer, put the cover back on and you won't have to worry about any major starter problems any time soon.

Mark, that is a fluke for sure. I have owned 3 different 300's and a 200 and never had a problem. If you want to sell your lemon I will take it.

Bought a new 2009 ktm 300,The starter motor had problems from new and friends have had similer problems.I have tried lots of fixes and so have my friends. The starter gears are now damaged. The starter motor is disapointment as it does not work and never has properly. The bike is great,it was sold as an electric start bike what a f""king joke.

Ive got a 2008
E Starter worked great for about 6 months after which its been apart many times. Ive sealed up the cover , installed a breather and run the gears in ATF which helped, but now the starter motor is getting tired (second set of brushes and the shaft is pitted).

Does anyone know of an aftermarket starter motor at a reasonable price?

Just bought a 2011 300xc, this is my first with E START. I also have a 2007 300 kick only. The e start is the reason I bought the new one. Wish I would have done m/y research first, the starter is junk!!! Never worked not once!!!!! Dealer said he would fix it but I can tell he is clueless.I'm reading the same isues back to 07... and they still can't figure it out on my 2011????? What the f**k!!!!!!

I've had an 09 Ktm 300 and have now got a 2011 Husaberg TE300 with about 20 hours up and have never had a Starter Motor problem. I never use the kickstart on either bike hot of cold, just lucky I guess but read with interest about the idea of sealing the stator cover and pouring in some oil to lube the starter and Bendix gear. How much oil are you guys using?
