Great Story on local one-time Fortuna Boy Ryan Villopoto's successful motocross win in San Francisco last weekend. I hope to see more results in the near future here in the Fortuna Beacon, as he races in many different cities across the US during this years [2010] Supercross season. Thank You Very Much!!! Thanks for the Villopoto story. I'm sure he is going to be up there on the podium more than once this coming year.

Hey...Congrats Ryan. Something in the water in Fortuna... The Beacon ought to do a story about one of the greatest motocross racers who ever lived & who also came from Fortuna....Pat Richter. Pat emerged onto the motocross scene in the 1970's back in the heyday when motocross first started becoming a national phenomenem... The old Husqvarnas and CZ's and Montessa and Maico's were everywhere along with Honda, Suzuki, etc. Pat began doing local races like Willow Creek , Garberville, Sacramento, & Redding. When he started racing as an amatuer...he was so good he would ride a power wheelie past all the pro riders, right out of the gate & hit the first turn in first place & never look back....He got noticed fast & became a Professional rider & was even sponsored by FOX & helped develop shock technology that is still used today... His career was short lived...he rode fast crazy and determined..but was one of the greatest & all the other riders knew he was going to blow them out...which he did. Wonder where he is today?
Kids!!! Go get a dirt bike...& drink some Fortuna water...

Yup.... Richter was the best......ever. a shame he is not considered the legend that he should be. Fortuna, CA is a breeding ground for great riders...like me, for example... Yesterday I crashed into some Himilaya stickers and bailed off my bike. Only good riders do stuff like that, Chicks dig me for it.
