blinker switch

i have a 1986 honda xl250.the blinker switch is messed up.they were working pretty good but the switch was still a bit sticky and gritty feeling,so i took the switch apart and sprayed it with wd-40,and it still was sticky feeling.tookit apart again,cleaned it up and put a little vaseline on the moving parts in the switch,now the blinkers wont come on at all.took it apart again,cleaned vaseline off,sprayed it again with wd-40,blinkers still will not come on at all,can anyone tell me whats up wit it,tyhanks
