Just another case of Jap trying to imitate American. This is why out economy is down the crapper and it's sad when when people that call themselves Americans fall for it and buy the import crap.

The copy cat crap is getting old ... Harley was not the first American motorcycle, so Harley is just a imitation Indian. Most products are designed using other products as inspiration.

Companies design a product that appeals to customers and Harley isn't exempt from that, there are few exceptions. Shall Victory "American made," or Honda, or Yamaha all make square gas tanks and rims just because Harley makes theirs round.

And copy? Who made the first production fuel injected Motorcycle? Who made the first liquid cooled motorcycle? Who has the shaft drive ... for better of for worse.

For one Honda isn't coping Harley in technology at all, if anything they are making Harley keep up, and they are not doing so well at it either.

BTW, I'm looking at a new Victory, but I have noticed their wheels look extremely round like a Harley's, I think they may have even stolen the head light from Harley too!(0 0)

Also, It's sad when poeple call themselves Americans, and then judge others when they exercise there right as an American to choose what product is right for them, even if it is unfortunately "imported crap".

Ride what you wanna ride! I myself would rather have the Honda phantom over the HD iron. Paying 3k over the Honda for a inferior bike is stupid. Just saying.....

HD needs to pull their heads outta their asses and build better bikes. Also, don't be hating on the imports.... At least they are affordable and good looking....not to mention....reliable!

i had been wanting to buy the phantom for a long time now. if it weren't for ride position, i would get the HD 1200 nightster but the Phantom is simply a work of beauty. it funny to read that someone would call Honda crap when Honda is the largerst producer of internal combustion engine in the world and has a fair share of market in the States. It's about what's more efficient and cost effective. for those who want to be truely American in their head and go buy HD, they are welcome to. as for me, i am in love with this car.

I've been torn up between getting a HD iron 883 or the Honda Shadow Phantom. The whole being true American speech doesn't apply to me since I'm Egyptian. So to me both bike are imported. That being said I would've loved to buy a Harley to be honest but if I had to choose between the 883 and the phantom I'd go with the phantom on this one since after all it is a cruiser while the 883 is a standard which isn't Harley's specialty. I've just made up my mind recently and as much as I'd love the Harley Davidson logo on my bike's tank,I'm going with the Phantom since it's the better choice within that money range

There are so many cruiser cars in US and the other countries are catching up the trends of getting the high speed cars. However, with increased petrol and gas cost most of the vehicle owners are now looking for the cars that need low cost for maintenance and fuel as well. In India as well, I have recently seen a lot of launches, keeping the fuel efficiency as the prime target for the car owners. on Sept 28th the one lined up is [URL=www.cardekho.com/carmodel s/Honda/Honda_Brio]Honda Brio[/URL] and then the Mahindara's XUV 500, which is not a fuel efficient car but has been modified for Indian roads and conditions to provide better mileage and low cost for mantenance.

as for myself, as much as i like the word Harley, i truly prefer the word reliable... and so therefore i will but the phantom, or rs model.

Personally, it is my take that the japanese manufacturers are trying to build a bike with appeal to the american market. We certainly do like our cruisers, and for the longest time, the market was only for one american manfacturer. Now, there are so many people who make v twin cruisers that the market itself is swamped. Couple that with the newer EPA restrictions, and everyone is seeing changes to the market.

That also mean changes to the botrtom. line. One thing I will say about jap vs american, is the actual cost of ownership. IF you like to leave the bike completely stock, then buying a japanese motorcycle might not be a bad idea. But the fact is, that most, if not all cruiser riders customise to some degree, and for the japanese, aftermarket parts are few and far between, not to mention more costly. This, coupled with the fact that a lot of older jap bikes that could be on the road right now if there were parts available, makes Harley a more viable option.

Harleys don't change all that much because the riders like them the way they are. FOr an all around motorcycle, Harleys really can't be beat. They go and go, despite what the competition would like you to believe, and people seem to keep them longer. No apologies to anyone, buy what you like, ride what you want. Me, I'd still rather have a 10 year old Harley than a new jap bike. My choice. IF Harley were the oil leaking, unreliable bike that everyone says they are, and jap bikes were the perfect answer, I'd still ride a Harley. My bike represents who I am. Not the other way around.

Been riding HD for over 13 years., My parents had a shovel dresser when I was a teenager.

Ultimately, if I was the only one out there riding HD, it's still what I'd ride. I don't care what anyone else thinks. You shouldn't care what I think if you want to ride a Honda. In fact, I'd simply say I wouldn't give it too much thought. Maybe someday people will leave it alone.

I bought a Phantom yesterday. Ive been pondering for 2 years over the HD 883 and Phantom 750. Price, reliability, comfort, everything goes into consideration. What finally tipped me over, was the 1991 Honda Nighthawk 750cc, thats still running strong and was my daily summer driver till yesterday. Over 100,000 km, and going by regular maintenance. Buy what you want, ride what you want, drink what you want, have fun outthere folks.
