Harley rallies are boring boring boring!Their whole purpose is based on a profit opurtunity. Usually to sell left over T-shirts. If Daytona and Sturgis were closed events, controlled by the Motor Company, they would dissapear.

hahaha! I'd be surprised to see Myrtle Beach still standing if the two rallies in May were combined. I'm going to start digging a bomb shelter now JUST in case that ever does come to fruition.

Interesting to see these results, I wish everyone would have taken the survey. There should be a website where you can register to do a survey.

We just returned from the STURGIS, SD Bike Rally (the largest in the USA). The Myrtle Beach decision makers should go to the Rapid City, SD area and see all the small towns that WELCOME the bikers. They close the main streets to allow bike parking and are thrilled to have them spend money in their towns. The citizens of the towns come out and are a part of the rally. The difference is unbelievable when compared to the MB Rally. The bikers want to be treated like normal individuals (as they are in their day-to-day life) when not riding. Face it; the greatest percentage of loud, lewd behavior is from the Memorial Day Rally bikers and you don't want to say it or act on it. The MB Rally bikers spend lots of money on motels, FOOD, gifts, gas, etc. How many times have Harley riders rode off and not paid for gas? Most of them eat in the local restaurants and bars and spend a great deal of money in Horry County. You need to give serious consideration before you alienate those bikers who come here to enjoy the beach, spend lots of money, ride and meet their fellow riders. And, it would probably be a good investment of MB funds for some of the decision makers to go to towns like Deadwood, SD or Hulett, WY or Wall, SD during the 2008 Sturgis bike rally and see how to truly handle the bikers, crowds and REVENUE.

Well stated, I was there as well. They are much more organized to handle the traffic then MB and smaller towns, with larger crowds.

Sturgis is in South Dakota and can't be compared to MB! I don't see a building boom there and with no ocean to attract tourist otherwise I have no doubt that they LOVE the extra money. What other events does Sturgis hold that would bring in so much money beside a bike week? Also, the Sturgis event is only 7 days NOT 10! YOU ARE NOT COMPARING APPLES TO APPLES - Sturgis, SD is not Myrtle Beach, SC! Be fair in your opinions!

just in case you haven't heard or read, nothing is going to stop US from coming down, regardless of how you vote, beg or complain. Your only choice is to locked the whole city down, and we know that's not going to happen. See you in MAY ;-)

Looks like the city and county are building a hostile environment beteen golfers and bikers. I suggest golfers stay away from the strand during the month of May. These county folks don't seem to know what they are doing.

Just what type of small minded people put any credence in anything related to the Shamers of Commerce? Less than 8% of all local businesses are members. The only reason that the North Myrtle Beach Shamers of Commerce is still a float is because of the 28% Myrtle Beach Member ships. I am not sure if it is private individual or small business. But most businesses in North Myrtle Beach think that the chamber and it funny numbers are a joke and a waste of time and money.

October will be here soon. All you Harley people are going to have to make a decision. Do we want to make a statement? Should we come to the fall rally and just not spend any money or should we just not come at all. As long as we are not paying for hotel rooms, and are not spending money in local stores and restaurants, we can have fun and make a statement at the same time. So start calling your friends and looking for a place to stay. Let’s do some cooking out southern style.
