Look Harley workers & wives, if the company wants to shut down the York Plant, they can. If they want to move to another state, they can. Harley said that the York Plant is not competitive. Pointing fingers is not going to help anyone, and will not stop this train from coming. For anyone living above you means, get your house in order. For anyone who doesn't have a plan....get one. I lost a good paying job in early 2002 due to no means of my own. It's taken me until 2008 to financially catch up. It didn't kill me, but I certainly became "Humble". I learned to do a few things differently and also learned to look at myself. Good Luck.

I think you all are missing the point. Cancelling a modern facility to build the next generation of
Buell is STUPID! The marketplace for full dresser Harley's is just about dead! Young riders want SPORT bikes (hint Buell), mid-lifers are looking for sport\tour bikes. But it's not suprising, HD has totally ignored this largest segment of the motorcycle marketplace, giving the metrics a clear field! Go to a HD STORE and see if you can find Buell (maybe one, in the back of the dealership). Why not convert York to Buell production?

Wonder if those fat Harley slobs ever rode a well built Honda at 1/2 the price??
Yeah, at 250 I could be considered "fat". Not really a slob. Yeah, I rode a well built Honda. Not half the price, but I'll stick with my better handling, much better fit and finished Eglide.

Why not close the Harley plant for 3 months, lay-off/fire all the workers and move in the Buell operations. Once everything is ready to go rehire all the workers at non-unionized normal payscales for what a person turning a wrench should be paid.
Who are you to decide what people should make. Instead of middle class getting mad at decent wages, why not protest the wages people can't live on. Its getting sickning that only the Rich can have a decent home, decent schooling and decent wages.

First, we now know why they didnt build the Buell plant. Second, turning a wrench is a skill that pays well. Thats why you take your car, bike, boat, or what ever to people that turn wrenches. Cause you dont know how to do it your self, and need someone else to do it for you.

Factory work is not the same as the mechanic you take your new car to for repair. A mechanic has to be able to diagnose, dismantle and reassemble many many different vehicles. Factory work is "put the wheel on the bike and tighten the nut", "put the wheel on the bike and tighten the nut", "put the wheel on the bike and tighten the nut", "put the wheel on the bike and tighten the nut", "put the wheel on the bike and tighten the nut" all day every day! Damn a monkey could almost do it and they complain because they only make 50K a year. HA, take those jobs ANYWHERE and people would jump on them ALL DAY LONG. The union reps thank you for their new boats and that great European vacation, they are gonna screw you right out of those jobs.
H-D Please come to Texas! We will treat you right! I and a lot of others will take those jobs gladly and give you a top notch product!
