cool read man,
I got ridin' fever so bad & it's only 40 degrees out and raining again....
That hybird wing idea is pretty sick...Baby!
I like the new victory & bimmer's better than the new wings. The honda does not have the status that it used to, most hodna customers are prolli women anyway and I have never seen a woman ride a wing B4?
Over the years the wing has become overweight with needless gizmo's that no riders have any real use for.

I have an 85 GW, the other day a deer jumped out in front of me and I slammed on the rear brake. the front end shimmied so bad, I almost lost control of it. What could cause that to happen?

I would put the bike up on a service/center stand and check for any play in the steerin head, rear swingarm, wheel bearings ect.. also look for any broken shock absorber bolts, or cracked frame (under gas tank)....Baby!

You did use the front brake too, I assume. That is what it is for.
I'm guessing using the back only would cause the front to 'fish tail', which in the front would be a shimmy.
Maybe not, but using the back only is a bad idea regardless.

My honda goldwing 1800 shakes when i use my back brakes after it is hot. the dealer and honda corp. state they know about it but offer no answers on how to fix it. honda say's to use both brakes at the same time. this is not acceptable. there are times when this is not possible.*jb

i see alot of ireagular front tire wear issues in the bullitin you posted.

theres inline, v twin and flat/opposed engine configureations...the wing has a flat/opposed 6

http://www.maxsalvage.com/media/19/a20791b12f...

with the side-torque produced by a flat 6 you will never get even wear on the front tire under normal riding conditions. I get non-riders all the time frowning at my uneven worn front tires after about 6000 miles on them and i change them out after 8-9 thousand miles. By that time they are completey worn out on the one side.

I had just bought the bike and was not too familiar with its characteristics. The front brake was not operable, due to improper maintenence. I also knew if I ever started sliding the back tire there could have been asphalt involved. The deer, it seemed, was probably spooked by the "whistlers" mounted on the fairing, causing it to jump right in front of me, even in broad daylight!

Thought I might as well jump in here. I had admired the GL but when I had the chance I bought the Honda 750F model. I juggled the idea that I didn’t want to buy rear mounted fiberglass locking luggage compartment or the fiberglass saddlebags. It also had a full frame mounted fairing. Fairing had super dual horns which got the dull minded compartmentalized drivers ha. It was a tuff call since I really liked the quite, no vibration that the shaft drive brings.
I am trying to talk myself out of my wanting a GL. I also like the trike versions although not the 2 legged critter of a motorcycle but I like to options that the trike versions or conversion brings. Anyone gone that route where I can inquire about someone’s experience?

Tnx folks

Hey animal control,

The last sentence mentions the use of “needless gizmo’s” on which have no real use. Not being a wise guy here, but I am curious what equipment you have seen which is maybe not worth a hoot. I have be out of the market of motorcycles for some time but I am curious what the heck people maybe incorporating into motorcycles. I seems that there is so many options with market before and afters that soon you can easily have increased the cost $10,000. So help me out here,“gizmo’s?"

i have owned over 2 dozen bikes and none were honda's butt i was here B4 the japs came and i was here when they left...i toured the bike plant 3 times @ their last homecoming,,,i rode the honda 50's @ the very first honda family fun festival @ mad river mountain in 1978 even before the plant opened and i rember when the japs would fly into dayton internatioal in the mid 70's and they would stop for gas in town complete with there camera's strapped around their necks and they drove new funny litl' honda civics that were unheard of otherwise around these parts...

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

the original wing was a GL1000 but dat wert good-nuff, so it grew to GL1100/1200/1500/1800 and now rumors of a GL2000..?...and this douchebag idea of Will the Next Honda Gold Wing be a Hybrid?.....Baby!

the first ones were fitted with craig vetters windjammers

http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/Owners%20bik...

but honda could not handle him profiting so much and started making their own stuff and called it the aspecade. rit around '86 they put what i call fancy "trip computers" on top the gas tanks

http://members.core.com/~rbrickey/bikert.jpg

that was when they IMO crossed the line and the downfall of the wing ensued.

so far it had been a bike that had alternator overload problems and repacemet was a real hassle...it had frame crack issues due to it's obese nature and these guys were keepin' growing the dam thing...?...

i know very few valkery runes were made so i started lookin' into possible ownership and noticed the tires run $500 each....thats $1000+ a set not including labor every year or so rite there.

anti-lock breaks are bad enough in an auto and totally unwanted on any motorcycle of mine and when i go to my dealer they ask if i have them and i anwser no, they say good for you, those things a only trouble.

the lazy boy rocker/recliner in my living room is smaller the the obese wing anymore, why the hell would i want a bike with a love seat bolted to-it?

navigation...?...no thanks
hand warmers...?.git outtaha here....
i could go on 4 ever....and an airbag...?...UR pukin' me out!

The standard GL1000 was the best bike

as far as a 750F compare to the wing goes for me, the first big differance would be the fuel econmey...a 1800cc wing would guzzle gas. a complete differant ballgame than any 750.....a 1200 is bad enough on gas..

there at least 2 important varayations of trikes, the solid axle and independant suspension..
(think the ford explorer lawsuit in the early '90's wen the solid rear axe was causing roll-over deaths and ford changed to independant rear suspension)

heres a solid axle kit
http://www.santiagochopper.com/media/Parts/Tr...

heres a independant suspension trike kt
http://www.trikeshopofdaytona.com/images/hond...

do not ride a solid axle trike and if you have a friend who has one tell them to never ride the dam thing.

only consider a independat rear suspension for UR trike purchace consideration..i can not emphicize this enough...

then there the trikes price...a new wing is $20,000+ and the california custom trike kit installed doubles that to $40k and add $6k for the trailer..so there ya go for $46K brand new (2 years ago) for the top of the line trike/traler offered by honda dealers...
(i am serious,i have had honda factory associates argue theres no bike that cost that, but they are ignorant)

next is depreation its huge..i would be looking for a low mileage (ive frequently seen 6 year old and only 4,500 miles) 1 owner trike...and i would keep it close to half the new price range ($20,000) and as long as i kept it-up it would not deperciate excessevly as a brand new one would depreciate $16,000 assoon as you drove it off the floor.

in ohio a motorcycle lisence endorsement is no good on a trike..we need a trike endorsement to legaly operate them

happy trails
