Jun 19, 2010 Full story: WMBF News 6

First it was the helmet law, now it's the muffler law. Some bikers sued the City of Myrtle Beach this week over an ordinance that limits the noise a motorcycle can make within city limits.

Cars have to have mufflers so should bikes. I go to Mrytle Beach for a vacation not to hear loud pipes and load music.

Good. About time the full intent of the recent decision was affirmed. As i read it, ALL but two of the so called laws were repudiated by the high court. Only the fact those two had been remade into misdemeanor law allowed them to survive. the muffler law is clearly illegal, as all vehicles made or imported in the US have noise standards set by the US government. Unless proof exists that the muffler has been altered, No ticket can be sustained. You have to be pretty dumb to take on not only SC, but the federal govt. as well.

Grayre maybe you need to read some of the stories and get some facts. You got it wrong. This is not about anyone in a car or on a bike not having a muffler. The government already requires that. That was always the law even before these old crazy men passed these ordinances in order to implement their failed selective tourism campaign which still has not yet produced any of those replacement tourist. Now the town is broke, can not even afford one new police officer for the new wooden boring walk/sidewalk, so crime is once again on the rise and it is no longer safe for tourist.
This is about how the town will now be sued for trying to make some ridicules ordinance that the towns own police motorcycles could not pass. At the heart of the issue is that they can not just say that someone’s exhaust must meet some requirements that are not required by the State Government. As long as a vehicle meets the standards of the state then it should be legal. How would you like it if my town staid that your beat up West Virginia car had to have paper bumpers made out of Real West Virginia recycled trash and of course there is no such thing so you would be stuck (see catch 22 for more details).
As long as a vehicle meets the State standards then it should be allowed and since that is not what Myrtle Beach is doing they are now being sued as they should be.
I hope that this is not to confusing or to difficult for you to comprehend as is often the case with the Myrtle Beach elitists that want to create a large utopian retirement community that will be funded entirely on, for ever growing higher taxes and do not seem to care about civil or individual rights or about how much financial Mayhem reap upon the local economy and the business community.

When a town is led by such narrow minded old men whose minds no longer work you will end up with many unhappy citizens and many law suits when people’s rights are ignored and civil rights violations are prevalent. The actions of this ship of fools will continue to cost the city for many years to come. It is shameful that these so called leaders could be so either ignorant to the law or simply arrogant enough to not care.
