That's one big reason why Wal-Mart is so successful. And that's one big reason why most Americans don't buy or ride Harleys. Most American riders buy Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas, Victorys, Ducatis, etc. Do the math.

the harley stores are hurting...they can barely give them away nowadays...overpriced and underpowered...real "riders" (those who ride most everyday) want performance and reliability, power and speed, comfort and durability...all things that harley can never deliver...now the "weekend warriors, and yuppies" better stick with the harleys, otherwise they won't be "cool"...but hey..ride whatever ya want to ride, I will be passing you on the left...

It's easy to ignore Victory. But once a Harley minded prospective buyer takes a little time to explore what Victory has to offer, buying a new cruiser gets a lot harder. Victory is enticing. Their engine is one of the better performing motorcycle engines out of the crate. Their bikes handle well and in some cases feel they feel less than they weigh. Harley vs. Victory, which cruiser should a person buy? It's a tough decision. Especially when you go to Youtube and listen to all of the Victories that have accessory exhaust systems installed on them. When they an aftermarket exhaust system on them a Victory engines sounds sweet. And don't forget that Vic will be manufacturing Indian motorcycles in 2013.

I agree, Victory bikes are head and shoulders above Harley in performance and looks...for me, I will stick with my Raider, the power and the ride just cannot be touched by any harley or victory made at this time...I ride with the Patriot Guard for funerals and such, always cracks me up when the Harley guys start overheating and the bikes start making weird sounds...

I'd like to cheer for Victory, but just can't get used to the styling. It just seems to miss the mark, on so many levels.
I'm glad they are there, choice is good.

If I couldn't own my '09 Triumph Rocket, I might go with Victory.
Nah, I'd get a 2011 Triumph Thunderbird first.
Well, if there were no Triumphs, then maybe....

Old school HD is hard to break away from.
Class is class, and HD keeps it, dispite their obvious weaknesses.

I added an after market oil cooler with a stat, to my roadglide and I never have had any cooling issues.

But also, I do like other bikes.

I have a 01 yamaha 1100 paid 5999.00 new can sell it any day for 5000.00 that avgs out I only lost 1.1% a year on it. It's been the best bike I have ever owned. 2 batteres 2 sets of tires and regular maintance been ridding it for almost 12 years now. Only thing I want to ad is stainless spokes. Org start rusting after 10 years. Will do it on next set of tires while the wheels are off.

I like the Triumph Thunderbird. If I did not want a new Indian the Thunderbird would be my next choice.

I started out riding BSA's and Triumphs back in the 70's, eventually moved up to a superglide, rode a few sportys, got tired of not having a bike with any real balls (power) and little to no acceleration when you need it...now I ride an '08 Raider..awesome machine, looks better than any harley made, and sounds far better also...a deep throaty rumble instead of that clanking sputtering harley shriek....113 cubic inches of total balls to wall power...and yes it is the fastest cruiser made in the quarter mile...if you are into that kinda thing...

My, my, my... How times have changed since the start of this thread. Now new Harley's from 2011 are still sitting on the showroom floor in August of 2012. There are 10x as many Harley's for sale than all other bikes put together. Harley's are losing value just as fast as metric bikes. All those wanna be bad ass bikers have found out that riding a motorcycle wasn't really as cool as they thought. But still, Harley is a marketing machine. It's on every t-shirt, jack, rain suite and pair of chaps they sell. And hey, we all know just having the words Harley-Davidson on your clothes is what it's all about. It announces to the world that you'll pay double just to give them free advertising. What a bunch of sheep...

Years ago when you saw a Harley coming, you knew these guys were true riders.Riding everywhere and having everything they needed to keep that bike running in case of a break down.Oil leaks under the bike where ever it was parked. It didn't matter. These guys rode being proud to have that bike. These days, you see a group of guys with all the over priced HD clothing sitting at a stop light reving the engine and heading towards the nearest Dunkin Donuts not having a clue what riding is all about.HD executives are sitting back laughing at what these people spend on all the clothing and accessories for this whole parade. It is sad to see what it has all turned into. What a joke.
