2010 Honda Shadow RS First Look

Nov 12, 2009 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Motorcycle USA

The Shadow RS is the sportiest of the quartet of low-slung beginner bikes, all of which are powered by the same liquid-cooled 745cc V-Twin. Like the new-for-2010 Shadow Phantom, the RS is fuel-injected while the less expensive Aero and Spirit retain their 34mm CV carburetors.

Honda makes an excellant bike at a fair price unlike Harleys that are way overpriced junk.

Good looking bike. It's a shame it's not very freeway friendly. Like all Shadow 750's, it needs different gearing or a 6 speed tranny to make it a good all-rounder.

Hey "Frank", owning a Harley is more than price. Its a Lifestyle and preference to be part of a select few. I've seen ur postings in other places, "bashing" Harley.. Now maybe you got burned in a situation, or your broke-a$$ cant afford a Harley, I dont know. But if you dont like the bike MOVE-ON to another thread! Like the kiss-a$$ Honda thread.

Hmmm, HD 883 -$6,999. Cheapest Shadow 750 -$6,999. RS comes with rear drums and a chain. Overpriced?

Errm, acutally it's more expensive than the Sportster 883 here in the UK!... and will have no where near the same resale value as a Harley in the second hand market!

Like all things in the life, the real thing (a Harley - despite what some of you think) is the real thing, a Rolex is a Rolex, a Sunseeker is a Sunseeker, not an imitation!

Shadow RS MSRP in the States is $7799. For $8399 I can get a Kawasaki Vulcan 900. V-Star 950 is just $8099. Both have rear disc, belt drive, alloy wheels (tubeless tires), and more engine. Suzuki M50 is $7799 with shaft drive, alloy wheels, and more engine. And Honda wonders why their market share is shrinking....

Personally I think that this new RS is the BEST Shadow yet ... but, as pointed out, price is far too close to it's main competition, the XL883 ... so that alone will likely hurt sales. Price point the RS at at least $1000 cheaper, drop 50-60lbs and add a rear disc ... then they'd have a home run!
BTW, scootworks.com make a belt drive conversion kit for the previous chain-driven Shadow models (VLX & 750D), so it's likely they will also for the RS

Harleys are ok if you want to look like a member of the village people,Over rated poser machines and most harley riders are so far up their own arses they can see out of their own mouths....Honda reliability Harleys clapped out rust buckets...LOL

Dudes, it's not about the brand name of the bike, it's about riding first and foremost! I always say that when someone buys the bike for me and maintains it that's when they have input on what I ride. BTW, I ride a Shadow my husband rides a Vulcan and I have tons of friends that ride Harleys as well as everything else. The first question you should ask yourself is "does the bike fit?" For those of us who are height challenged fit is most important, for me even the lowered 883HD is uncomfortable. Would I own a HD - sure, but I would also own a ton of other metrics if they fit.

I know there are clubs out there that only allow one brand or another and if that fits your lifestyle great... personally I'd rather have good friends that ride whatever they/we want vs having to choose my riding buddies because of what they ride.

Select few.....millions? Who are you kidding, a few years back all the Harley snobs had their names on waiting lists. Hardly makes for a 'select few'.

I ride a Harley & have friends that ride the Shadow. I tease them about staying the 3rd gear to they can keep up with me & they tease me saying they are riding slow so they can pick all the parts falling off my bike. It is all in fun. Harley & Honda or whatever....they are out there enjoying the breeze on their face. End of conversation.

Hey if you can afford the HD dealer maintenance, parts, upgrades and "lifestyle"...then get the HD Sportster XL883, it's an excellent motorcycle. However if you are not out to join an "elitist" group or you already trust Honda bikes because they have a solid reputation and won't break you in the parts/maintenace dept...then get the Honda. There's a bike for everyone out there, just get what fits your "lifestyle", what ever that might entail and enjoy the fact that it's on two wheels baybee!

There's a reason that Honda look like Harleys now instead of Hondas.

The Shadow is an Imatation of a Harley, If I want a Harley Id buy one. The Honda Fury is a joke because it is an imitation also, Put an inline 4 in either bike and they would be just fine. If Honda has no pride in its heritage why would a buyer?

It doesn't matter...if it's a decent motorcycle and it looks nice, runs good and people like it who can say it's not a good buy. Sure it looks alot like an Sportster, and no one is saying it's going to give you the same experience as an HD can, because it just wont. HD's a great bike, but to compare a Honda & Harley is like comparing apples and oranges, they are definitely different! The bike is what it is, it fills a decent portion of the market and for many people that will make their day just fine...imitation or not.

Harley upped the priced on Sporters by $1000..they are now 7999! All Honda's line is priced below Harley...and no one will steal it either!

I used to have a Honda Shadow that was a work of art and looked like a custom bike worth $20,000! I paid $4200 for it ;) Harley riders were jealous as hell about it! Most were crowing about paying too much for their bike!!
