Harley is aiming this restriction directly at their Canadian customers. Deeley, who is the Canadian distributor has enough influence with HD (this is one of the longest standing relationships between any dealer/distributor and HD) to get HD to issue these restrictions. In the USA HD sells directly to it's dealers while in Canada HD sells to Deeley who in turn sells to the Canadain HD dealers - hence 2 markups vs. 1 - hence a Ultra Classic that sells for $23,000 at any dealer in the USA sells for $29,000 in Canada - hence I can't blame Canadians for going south to buy bikes and accessories. This kind of restriction will only lead to a sharp decline in sales of bikes and accessories all accross Canada and in the end HD looses..........There is an old addage: to cut ones nose off to spite ones face............

This is no different then the Company not wanting dealers to sell parts to Independant shops so that their dealers will get all repair work. The Company should be glad to sell the parts to anyone and dealers should be glad to get the commision off the sales. In the long run the Company AND dealers are the one that will suffer and so will owners because independant shops will start using foriegn parts that are sub-par. What are they (Company) thinking ??
