“I was hurt and shook real bad, but I told myself I can't quit, I've got to stay out there”

Kelly Pavlik knocked out Jermain Taylor in the seventh round Saturday night in Atlantic City to win the world middleweight title.

Far behind on points after absorbing a brutal beating in the second round, Pavlik cornered Taylor and stunned him with a hard right to the jaw, and then sent him down with a flurry of lefts and rights.

Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) remained undefeated, and Taylor (27-1-1) sustained his first loss.

Taylor entered the fight looking to buff up his image after what some perceived as a lackluster decision over Cory Spinks in May. He did that almost immediately, pounding Pavlik in the second round with a flurry that sent Pavlik to all fours. Read more

Pavlik is just a throwback fighter from the past. His work ethic and big heart is the reason that he came out victorious. It's good to see a fighter and a trainer remain loyal to one another. Pavlik stayed with the one that took him to this point and look at the results.

I really thought TAYLOR had that fight when he knockdown PAVLIK early. But PAVLIK showed a lot of hart and he just kept getting TAYLOR in that corner and landing good punches. TAYLOR really look tired and he couldn't finish PAVLIK. I know this will be a rematch but I think TAYLOR must need to be better conditioned if he wants to win next time.

taylor is one of the great pound for pound fighters in the middle weight division but pavlik proves he is inline with them, beating and sending taylor into the canvass...maybe taylor is a little bit confident after knock outing pavlik in the second round....maybe he forgets what boxing is...when aplayer is still in the ring there are so many things to happen..pavlik sent a message to taylor that a boxer could not only win a fight just by power or any sort of conditioning, you must have a heart to win and that is the thing that taylor forgets......
