Maybe Crain could find his old self in Canada.

80% of his pitches were breaking balls...he usually throws 70% fastballs and they sit back and time it. The breaking balls were still in the mid 80's (mph), he was getting behind in the count, but still threw mostly curves and sliders.

He's not going back to his old self...it will be a better "new" self! It would be nice to see him develop a changeup that comes in at 75 mph with the same motion of the 95 mph fastball.

Morneau's power is crucial for the Twins. The team has several decent power hitters, but none that match Morneau's potential. If Justin continues to lead the Twins to serious contention he may very well be this seasons AL MVP.

So this Morneau fellow seems to be pretty good.

If he can get his RBI total up there, Morneau could be first triple crown winner since Yastremski in 1967.

The porblem with your assumption is that this is what he looked like coming to the bigs. Not like the rest of the juiced a-holes that changed size over night.

Stay hidden in your basement, Cal. could end up with a law like Arizona. Souldn't you be out mowing a lawn somewhere or plucking a chicken...dummy?

Yeah, we don't have Castillo anymore... haven't for a few years actually. I agree with you on Crain - he needs to go. Punto? Do you understand that there is a part of the game where good defense matters? Punto is an amazing infielders, and this year his offense is passable - he should never make big money, but he is a keeper if he stays "affordable" by MLB standards.

If Punto's hitting is merely 'pasable' then most of the Twins line -up should be benched! I think people are still judging Nick on past seasons. His defense is incredible!

Bah - you're splitting hairs. Passable for the MLB is a big deal - SI considers hitting a major league pitch to be the toughest job in sports.

I think you missed my point. Punto is hitting well this year, and in my estimation he is the best utility guy in all of MLB. I was reacting to people who try and run him down because of hitting -which may have been fair a season or two with Nick, but not this season. I'm a BIG Punto fan!

Since 03' Punto has had a good season for batting average followed by a poor season for batting average and that cycle has repeated itself until this season... currently he is hitting .234 and last year he hit .228 - the year before that he hit .284. How exactly would the criticism have been more fair for last year when so far he is only hitting .006 percentage points better than last season? How could the criticism have possibly been fair two seasons ago when he hit .284?

I stand by my description of his hitting - passable. I am a Punto fan as well - I think his defense more than makes up for his inconsistent, yet passable, hitting.

Passable is a good word choice for Punto's hitting. His average has fallen off as of late. Seems like just a week ago he was at more like .260 - I think the Twins line up can easily absorb him hitting even in the .230 range for the benefit of his glove. I do often wonder how Nick would be more valuable as the utility guy. If he were available off the bench and not locked into 3rd base, the current situation would be no big deal. Just bring Punto in to start while Hardy recuperates. But of course, Harris (except last night) has not hit well enough to earn that 3rd base job.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about how Morneau is from Canada and that he loves hockey?
