Jake Peavy can't wait to take mound for Chicago White Sox

Jake Peavy has a reputation as a front-line, take-charge starting pitcher, and the 2007 National League Cy Young award winner appeared every inch the part Saturday in his first Chicago news conference since the White Sox acquired him from the Padres at the trading deadline Friday.

The best part, he could have easily added Washburn, you know, the guy with the second best ERA in the league, for both less players and significantly less money. Instead the guy goes to the division leader to help them immediately. Bone head move / lack of move.

And no SU X fans, you don't have the best rotation in baseball,... you don't even have the best rotation in your own division ... what clowns. Detroit now has 3 of the top 6 best pitchers in the AL ... the SU X have 1 in the top 20 .... and his ERA is less than that of all 3 of the Tigers pitchers.

The best part is the SU X fans have no idea what they got in Peavy. He is a less than average NL pitcher outside of Petco. In 3 of the last 4 years (ex 2007) his NL average is 4.3 to 4.6 outside of Petco. At best his career numbers reflect 3.8 outside of Petco .... taking into account numbers not in recent history.

So the Cubs and Dodgers both passed on this guy as a NL ERA trending in the mid 4s is not worth $17.25 M a year ... let alone give up any players to get that performance.

Oh, but the nightmare continues for our unintelligent SU X fans ... take whatever base you want, 3.8 or 4.5 and add on an AL adjustment of .75, and a home field Smell adjustment of .25 and you just signed a 3 year deal at $17.25 per year for a pitcher that will best case, do an admiral job if his ERA is about 4.8 per year.

Way to go Kenny.

That would make him the highest paid player on the team but yet probably the 4th best starter who will not even be a top 30 AL pitcher.

Get's worse. Funniest thing I've read is KW and fans all psyched on Peavy pitching post season. He has pitched post season twice and put up NL ERA numbers of 16.6 and 8.4. This is the exact opposite of a guy like Schilling who straps on a titanium pair and pitches better in the post season. Envision Peavy pulling out set of pin head sized cotton balls come post season .. if it ever occurs.

KW ought to be lambasted for this trade and more importantly the trades / moves he did not make this year. Another laugher, the SU X payroll is down $25 M from last year ... did you see a corresponding 20% drop in tx prices.

Oh, and for less than that $25 M and not too much higher on personnel, KW could have gotten McLouth (all star / gold glove center fielder) Sanchez (all star batting champ 2nd baseman) and both starting pitchers Washburn and Lee.

Way to go Kenny ... gutsy and highly emotional (I want to be a big boy too).... but real real stupid.

SU X could have won the division this year. Well, at least the city of Chicago will be able to watch the Cubs in the post season in 2009.

I don't believe a single post / fan caught the true meaning of KW's actions .... he has absolutely raised the white flag (and it doesn't have a big blue W on it) of surrender on the 2009 season. At best Peavy will help the SU X in 6 games out of the remaining 58 to be played. By the time he returns the SU X will out of contention for the division .... the SU X have absolutely no chance to win the wildcard in 2009.

Spoken like a true idiotic Cubs fan. How is Peavy sloppy seconds that never played for the Cubs? Its like the nerd that was friends with a girl but the cool guy took her away from him. Now that nerd will always be obsessed with that girl but never had the chance in the first place. A better example of sloppy seconds would be using up Cotts during his great years then sending him off to the Cubs only to have him give up a bunch of runs to his former team during interleague.

Sloppy seconds in that he was worked over, drooling to cum to the Cubs, literally singing "Go Cubs Go" himself in Las Vegas and it was the Cubs that said no ... although generous in their contracts,$17.25 M a year for a NL ERA in the mid 4s is a no brainer ... no deal.

Your analysis is ironicly right on ... except the little nerd is you and Kenny. Every boy at the dance passed on the girl and the little nerd in the corner was the only one interested .... you do know that KW is the only GM in MLB to inquire ... probably not, but now you know.

The first attempt at Peavy I thought was a great move. But this second attempt has left me and everyone's head scratching. you sir are correct in every aspect when you stated that steroids do indeed belong in our fine american past time that we call baseball. it makes our white sox faster, agressive at the plate, and pumps up their muscle mass! i am a big big fan of Mr. Jason Giambi and take offense when he is refered to as "the sultan of shot" Mr.Barry Bonds is also a longtime favorite of mine and i think it was a big mistake not to include him in this current lineup, or any future lineup that the sox have so get to work and sign him kenny williams! if Thome, Dye, Konerko, Podsednic and Piersinski are all on roids then the rest of the team should also be on roids! look at all the records that were set while players were on steroids! very very impressive! in closing i would also like to cast my vote for Jose Canseco to be next seasons hitting coach or team doctor!
