"The minivan driver fled the crash on foot and was captured about 30 minutes later. Police identified him as Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, of Riverside, and said he had a suspended license because of a previous drunken driving conviction."

WHAT A PIECE OF CR@P!!!!!! GALLO SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR. GOD WILLING, HE WILL NEVER BE AGAIN. THIS JERK IS THE POSTERBOY FOR WHAT IS WRONG WITH D.U.I. PENALTIES. THEY ARE NOT TOUGH ENOUGH AND IT USUALLY TAKES A SENSELESS ACT LIKE THIS TO GET ANYTHING DONE.

WITH ANY LUCK AT ALL, TWO THINGS WILL HOPEFULLY COME OUT OF THIS:

1. GALLO WILL SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN JAIL (I'D SURE HATE TO SEE THE SENTENCES RUN CONCURRENTLY MEANING LESS TIME)

AND MORE IMPORTANTLY:

2. IF ANYONE ELSE LEARNS ANYTHING FROM THIS TRGEDY: IF YOU DECIDE TO DRINK, PLEASE DO NOT GET BEHIND THE WHEEL AND ATTEMPT TO DRIVE.

WHAT A SENSELES WASTE. THIS DID NOT NEED TO HAPPEN AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.

Once again, drunk driving has claimed more lives. In the USA alone, annually, more than 16,000 people are killed in drunk-driving related accidents and I have to ask why. This is a completely preventable crime, but it still happens over and over year in and year out. In 5 years, that's 80,000 people dead. If this many people died in any other transportation activity, we would demand changes! Why does this crime just continue over and over?

When it "hits" someone famous and makes the news, we think about it for a minute.

Folks, let's call for an end to all drunk driving, especially recidivist drunk drivers like the one in this accident. Maybe ignition breathalyzers are the answer - I don't know. What I DO know is that NO ONE has to drive while intoxicated, and it is a choice that can and often does result in death.

Drunk driving is NO accident. The penalties definitely need to get much tougher. 13,000 lose their lives each year by this senselessness!
Check out the statistics:

Many people don't just drink and drive... they have a drinking problem, an addiction, and they live their lives this way! The are more of an instant threat to society than most crimes!

I believe the new law needs to be passed and instituted. When a person gets behind the wheel of a car intoxicated,(he or she has made a choice to do)(premeditation), when taken a life of individual(s)should get the death penalty automatically. We are wasting too much tax money keeping scum like this alive in prison. Let him think about what he did until we can give him lethal injection.

I agree, there needs to be sniff penalities the first time around... I seriously do not understand why people that are convicted of drunk driving are allowed to simply spend a night in jail, pay a fine and "promise" not to do it again.

The blood of these three lie with whatever judge didnt do his job... and lock this Gallo guy up long ago.

If you're feeling brave enough, you should get out all your receipts`, and then tot up how much you've spent this month. Or don't you have the courage to do so? It will be far better to know the truth than to pretend that everything's all right. But don't let it spoil what promises to be a delightfully enjoyable and rather emotional day.
