The Yankees Still Owe Alex Rodriguez $114 Million

If Alex Rodriguez were a free agent this off-season, would anybody give the aging slugger a $100 million contract? Would anybody even think about giving the 37-year-old a five-year deal? Well, that is the scenario facing the New York Yankees who still owe ARod $114 million over the next five years.

Not any more. A-Rod had an opt out clause which he exercised and his present contract represents an entire new deal that the Rangers are in no way responsible for.

The rumor on a couple of sites is that the Dodgers might have interest in A-Rod. I doubt it's accurate but if it is, take the bag of balls and give the Dodgers a few million and move on.

A-Rod is only a shadow of what he used to be, but I am sure he still could still be an upgrade for somebody.

Chavez is actually considered to be a better defensive third baseman.

Rodriguez would probably be more valuable to a team as a shortstop. Even with his falling production, he would be a considerably better than average hitter for a SS. At third, he is now no better than average as a hitter compared to others at 3B.

He probably would have been a better SS all along. BUT with the Team Captain at SS it wasn't ever gonna happen.

Agreed, heck maybe he can replace Swish at RF.

Jeter has lost much of his range, but at least he can still bat.

He can still play it and his range is at least the equal of Jeter if not better and he has a much stronger arm which would allow him to increase his range by being able to play deeper and still throw out runners.
