A rather untimely assessment, LMAO. Hughes now coming off his best outing ever in the rotation.

I was ready to say that Phil Hughs belongs in the bullpen where he has much better numbers than as a starter. He now has put together a string of 3 starts where he was very effective since getting rocked for seven earned runs in five and a third innings on May 28. and prior to the May 28 disaster, he had three consecutive starts where he pitched effectively. Maybe I should reassess my notion that he should be removed from the starting rotation. He has won six of his last seven decisions.

Judging by the way the Yankee starters have been pitching lately as a whole, I must give a vote of confidence to pitching coach Larry Rothschild.

That was then and this is now.

Hughes would be a number 2 on a lot of teams and a number 1 on several.

Hughs can be erratic at times, but he is no worse than an average starting pitcher. I do feel he would be more effective as a late inning relief man. He has pitched much better in relief than as a starter.

Hughes has been inconsistent, struggling early in the Season, when his power pitches were less than expected to be, and not very impressive or effective, but has pulled it together of late.

But, I agree with badcat. He would be more effective as a reliever, a late inning set up pitcher for the closer.

Stating Phil Hughes' Inconsistency Is "Killing" the New York Yankees is an overstated, excessive exaggeration, IMO. But Phil Hughes has not been a "solid reliability" in the rotation either.

Never know which Hughes is going to show up.

Hope he continues to keep it together.

Check out his splits at www.baseballreference.com and compare his record as a starter to his record as a reliever. What a difference!

Hughs is as of today 5-2 with a 2.83 ERA since the month of June and had only 2 ineffective outings and one of them was a highly ineffective outing and the other somewhat ineffective in his 8 starts since June 1.
