Rob,

I'm not entirely sure I know where you're going with this column? Are you trying to float the possibility that "money" has little to do with the Yankee's success? Or are you saying, "Well, yeah, money has something to do with their 27 World Series titles, but I think all of you po-dunk little markets out there should still bow your head in reverence because the Yankees run out ground balls with more passion than anybody else?" I'm not a Red Sox fan but something tells me some of their Columbus-based fans just spilled their coffee trying to get through your piece today?

It's impossible not to admire Derek Jeter and without question Mariano Rivera is a case study in 24/7 professionalism.-But every team in the Major Leagues has players who are in the Bigs precisely because of their work ethic and their approach to the game wouldn't change no matter what city they played in.

Bottom line, The "YES Network" ensures that the Yankees never have to say NO to winning.

So, it's not the money, it's the 90 years of money, which created that "environment" ballplayers talk about. The Jets, Giants, Knicks and Rangers don't have that financial advantage, which is why they don't have the cachet.
