If I'm remembering Tommy Herr correctly, he was also the sickest man in baseball the entire time he was with the Twins. He missed many games because of some unexplained illness or another.
A very entertaining article!

I recall when Herr learned he was traded to the Twins he literally started crying! He did not want to play here.

My vote is for Lew Ford...anyone who would iron their shirt while it's on their body ...well, they just can't be all there.

I agree. How do you possibly do this column without Mickey Hatcher and Ron Davis? Especially, using the "character" criterion, you have to include Hatcher, don't you? Hatcher made even the most routine fielding play look like a Cirque du Soleil extravaganza.

What about the man who ran out a single all the way down the foul line until he reached the baggy? both teams and the umps just stared at him until he came ALL THE WAY BACK to 1b. Wacky

Great stuff. I love wierdness, especially sports nut jobs. How about Ted Ulander, the Texas gun nut who scared his team-mates with his weaponry?

I don't see how Power's would forget to mention the time Lew Ford burned himself by trying to iron a wrinkled shirt while he was wearing it.

I agree. How could any list of Metrodome goofballs not have Hatcher on it. From what I have heard, part of Tommy Herr's reticence about playing for the Twins was due to some personal issues. I guess Herr's wife gave birth to a child shortly before coming here, and let's just say it was obvious that the child was not his.
