It's hard to figure why Gardenhire pulled Keppel in the 8th after he had gotten one out and had no one on base. The guy was pitching fairly well and seems to be able to put a little bit of heat on his fastball. Mijares got one out but put a couple guys on base. Guerrier then came in for the last out. Keppel isn't going to be any more useful because he pitched two-thirds less innings. Mijares often seems to have control issues, and he's still a young pitcher. Guerrier, despite having a good season so far this year, still makes a lot of us nervous after watching him get bombed so badly last season.

Anyhow, it's a victory, but Chicago and Detroit are both hot. The Twins need to win this series and play very well at home. Once home, they will be playing key series against both Chicago and Detroit. Let's hope that Mauer heats up again and that everyone is healthy.

Keppel looked really sharp. Then again so did Swarzak the first game. Lets hope Keppel can keep it up. Hope they win today!

I believe that this was Keppel's second outing. 3 scoreless innings the first time I think.

Do we have to use the AP for Twins stories now?

Keppel has already pitched over six innings in two outings. It would be unwise to hail him as some sort of savior, but he's an improvement over Crain. Gardenhire has used Keppel in long relief so far.

It is pretty early to judge him, but I like the fact that he throws 94mph and the ball moves a bit.
