Delmon Young needs to grow a pair. This is professional baseball, and sometimes u have to take one for the team. Oh, I forgot... It is all about Delmon, heck with the team. sheesh.

Was Delmonds leg sore early in the game when he waddeled like a duck after his botched play of a base hit.

No, that's how he always plays the outfield - like he's chasing chickens!

Finaly a twins pitcher standing up for a fielder and look what happens, everyone gets mad at the pitcher.
What does throwing behind 156-pound Adam Everett have to do with standing up for Cabrera? Marcus Thames came to the plate three times after he took out the shortstop. Throwing at Thames would have been standing up for Cabrera. I'm not sure Mijares would have dared to target Thames.

Tiger fan here, let me tell you Twins fans something. The feeling in this town, and has been for years, if the Tigers can not win the division every year, 90% of the fans I know wish it then be the Twins. You have one of the classiest and respected teams in ALL OF BASEBALL. As for your manager, the guy is first class and runs one heck of a ball game. I speak for many Detroit fans, your team is first class all the way. Get over firing your manager, big mistake, the guy is excellent. What happened today should not have happened. The Twins and Tigers both know it, and how the Twins handled it shows the know what the game is about and how to play it. If my team blows a lead they've held since May, I will be rooting for the Twins all the way.
Thanks for ur post, Zman. I can tell u are a thoughtful person, and I appreciate that. The problem with the Twins fans is that too many of them only make noise in September. I like the Tigers, they play good baseball, and have their weak underbellies just like the Twins do. I am not a big fan of ur manager, I think he is too hard on his players. Anyway, kind words and thank you... if ur Tigers win the division... best of luck in the post season.

They're both shortstops - that's how it's done. Mijares would not have had a chance to pitch to Thames - he would have been pulled for a right-hander.

He wouldn't have pitched to Thames with a five-run lead? Why not?

Fire Gardy? Are you crazy? He is one of the best managers in the majors. He is getting the most out of this team. I think the Atlanta paper just ranked Gardy as the best manager in baseball. Keep Gardy!!!
Show me the playoff wins?

Show me where Gardy got this team to the World Series? NONE in 8 years

3 ALDS LOST
1 ALCS LOST

Best manager in baseball with nothing to show
for but EXCUSES.

Replace him with a true winner (Paul Molitor)

I'm sick of this year in and out and it's getting
too long on the tooth.

Thanks AA. Was about to post the same thing.
Both Hunter & Cuddyer did not have the same amount of playing time that Young has been given. Delmon may yet develop, but he is not yet improving. If he develops into half the player that Cuddyer is that's probably as much as we should expect from him. It's not his fault, but the problem is the Twins made a terrible trade to get a fair outfielder. The Twins with Garza and Bartlett would run away with the AL central.

Yes, Hunter and Cuddyer had not played as much as Young by age 24, because they weren't ready at that age. Most players Young's age are still in the minor leagues. Span was an example of that.

Did you notice Young hit a grand slam tonight?

I did. Have you noticed that over the course of the season Young has proven exactly what I've been saying: Decent player, serviceable even, just not exceptional. He will contibute but is not crucial to the Twins success. The Twins would be a much better team had Garza remained as the anchor of the pitching staff and Bartlett at ss.

Bartlett has had a surprisingly good year. He's hitting .319 with 14 home runs, but last year he hit .286 with one home run. He's finally developed into a decent player at 29 years old. Remember, Young is only 24. Mauer didn't show any power until he was 26.

In his two years in Tampa, Garza has gone 19-21, with an ERA of 3.83. Again, Garza is very young and he could develop into a great pitcher. Time will tell. On the other hand, Young might hit forty home runs in the next year or two. It's way too early to judge this trade.

I believe that trade had more to do with internal clubhouse coaching problems with those two players. I am not positive about this, but I kind of remembering someone in the Twins organization discussing the reason for the trade.

Then I found a story from this year about Bartlett complaining about the Twins organization and another story about Garza also not happy with the Twins coaching staff trying to get him to develop other pitches besides his fastball.

That more than any other reason precipitated the trade of those uncooperative players to the Rays.

I agree to a limited degree. I took in a Twins game in Tampa earlier this season and their fans mocked the Twins endlessly for taking Young off of their hands and giving us Garza/Bartlett. Truth is they are much better off on the trade. If Young develops and Garza say blows out his arm, well then fine. I still maintain that the Twins would have been better off not making that trade. Instead of going after OC (who has helped) the organization could've pursued Sanchez or some other 2nd basemen. Since Young plays for the Twims I certainly hope that he becomes similar to Cuddyer - I just think that's unfair and unlikely.

Alas for the Twins, the White Sox are currently "mailing it in."
The boys needed to win at least one more on this past road trip.
Oh well.
White Sox still mailing it in Jeenyus? One more and it's a Sox sweep - and if the Twins can win tomorrow, they win the division!

Peavy and Garcia have been pitching well of late for the Sox, so winning 2 of 3 isn't too much to hope for. Twins will have to get by Grienke to sweep the Royals though. That will be tough...as for Delmon Young. He's a hot head, but he ain't no Milton Bradley. Not a disruption to the team at all.
the revisionist in me thinks I was wrong. Which means I was right. Nice job getting to Greinke. Go Twins!!!
