Talented athlete with zero discipline. Omar could have been great (he basically coasted through high school and college on just his talent), but he lacked the maturity and discipline necessary to become a dependable major leaguer. What a waste!

Which one are you? Let me guess, you were too good to play any sports and just harangued your kids into playing, right? You don't know spit about people from Socorro, just like I don't know spit about you. There are many excellent hard-working people and quite a few of them are earning recognition for the efforts they put in, both at school and on the athletic field.

Don't talk what you don't know.

any athlete who uses PEDs especially in baseball, needs their judgement to be professionally evaluated.

Omar is a good kid. I think maybe he was just able to make it under the wire maybe to many times. This time he got caught. Their was a time when he could of been caught in school, but it was over looked because of who he was and what he did for the team. Lets see who can take the blame for not reporting it then and suspending him at that time. That is to bad for some kids who play by the rules and who have great talent get over looked because of certain people not reporting it then.

Amen brother! Don't hit foul balls at the plex you may hit a 2009 Soco grad's(well some of them graduated) 5 year old kid in the head. Nice representation from the state champions only 2 are still playing in college. What happened? See Oso Bob's statement above and that says it all. Not a hater just speaking the truth.

Anyone caught using these drugs in any sport should not get any respect. What a waste, his career is over in the major leagues, anything he does after today will be questioned.

I know we are all quick to judge people for their faults but trust me, if I had the talent this dude had, i would definitely not put it to waste and continue working to getting better cause only a small fraction of players get the opportunity he got.

What a loser.

"Nice representation from the state champions only 2 are still playing in college. What happened?"

True educators do not expect their students to become "english, math or another subject teachers". Why do people think that band directors or coaches expect their students to become professional musicians or ball players. We use our God given talent to nurture students and have them grow into decent hard working citizens. I am sure that most of those team members are now studying and preparing for the future, whatever that may be. Excelling in high school is but a drop in the bucket of what a person can accomplish in their lifetime. It was always my hope that my students learned much more about life and what is expected of an honest adult in society all while becoming a good member of my "school society band class".

You ARE speaking the truth. Face it El Pasoan's, this city is an island. Very few people are exposed to the rest of the country and experience more than the border city. Truth be told Socorro's State Championship was a nice accomplishment but in what class again? Truth is Soccoro could not compete in larger regions. The evidence is two players playing somewhere in college? D-2, D-3, Juco ? Big deal !! Hell some schools send an entire staring line up to D-1 programs. Yawn....we are talking about Soccoro sports fans.

You know, my 14-year old uses the term "hater". It seems to me like a teenage expression, with teen-age conotations, like "my bad". When did this terminology become acceptable writing for educated adults? If I'm wrong please let me know.

Ok, back to the topic and away from this education stuff and proof reading skills.

THe topic is Omar got caught and now he has to face his biggests fans and critics.

So for now, dude is a loser for using drugs to enhance his competitive level, that just proves that he wasn't good to compete in the Major Leagues.

So lesson to all you high school kids trying to make it to the majors, DO NOT USE these drugs, if you have the skill and talent, work harder.

Omar made it to the Majors. He got a NCAA championship ring, as well. He's had accomplishments across the board. Don't knock one of the best ball players to come out of the El Paso area. Major league testing is very strict, now. Certain everyday OTCs test as PEDs, so wait till the whole story comes out. Don't be so quick to judge.
Yeah, Omar might have gotten away with things in the past. And yeah, he might have a lifestyle that maybe no different from yours. Nobody is perfect, and chances are, he'll still get a team to pick him up for the next better half of a decade. The fact of the matter is that he made it to the majors as a First Round Draft Pick. The same thing YOU wish happened to you, and your hijos. His family's dream came true. How many others out there can say the same?
