Full story: TwinCities.com

Of course the Twins would say this, they are a walking cliche.. What is more accurate is to say that they choked, and they gave the Yankees the win because Homeboy Mauer sucked it up, and thei pitching sucked even worse.

The first huge mistake is calling Francisco Liriano an ace. He is not in the same class as Sabathia, Lee, Halladay, Price, and the others who are still pitching in the play-offs. One gets so sick of the Twins' pretending they have an ace.

However, it's so true that the bats were silent. Was the Yankee pitching that good? Perhaps it's simply that the Twins' right-handed hitting didn't do the job, though Cuddyer had a decent series. Sabathia and Pettite stifled the Twins' lefties, particularly Kubel. Going with Sabathia and Pettite one and two was smart, but the Twins, as Thome said, should have taken one, and the lefties should have been able to do something against Hughes.

In any case, this play-off failure has to be one of the most deflating.

good to see the straight talk. Wish Mauer would join in, instead of deflecting responsibility for the postseason losing streak by pointing out that some of the personnel have changed. He's a fine athlete but he's no leader.

This is the whole problem with this team. They have no fire in the belly. A real competitor would never acknowledge that the other team outplayed them.

Hmm. Joe Mauer is a little messy, isn't he? Is that his jock strap hanging in the middle of the picture?

WHy don't we put this on the new stadium so it can be a permanent excuse and all Gardy has to do is point to the sign.

Hardy says 'there's nothing we could do to put pressure on them'??? Wow! If that doesn't sum up the Gardenhoser mindset!! Did you TRY to put pressure on them at all Hardy?? Didn't look like it.
Didn't have an opinion on Hardy's job here until now. Ship him out on the next bus out with Punto, Baker, Slowey and the rest of the dead weight on this team! And make sure Gardenhoser is driving the bus.
Cuddyer says 'they outplayed us'? My little league team could have outplayed you.
Hey guys, just state the truth-you failed again.

good post Brach...Yes, the common thread to each of the 4 teams still standing right now is that each team clearly has an Ace, the Twins do not and have not since Santana left.....and funny thing, last Twins pitcher to win a playoff game, surprise, is Santana. To compete at the next level ( playoffs) your team MUST have an ace to advance, let's hope the Twins are paying attention this post season/off season.

one of the most commonly used cliches in ALL of sports is the term "choke". This is EXACTLY what the Twins did..they choked, plain and simple and they did it team wide, hitting, running, fielding and pitching. The old Twins used to put pressure on opposing teams by running, bunting and hustling ( remember the Pirahanas?) This team does none of it. You have a fat horse on the mound like Sabathia, why not make him work by bunting. I would have had Span ( he suks anyway) and O Dawg bunt everytime they came up just to keep CC moving and on his toes. They never steal bases anymore, their base running is absolutley atrocious. can anyone remember a season in which so many players were gunned down on the bases this year?. When you think about it, it makes you wonder how they even won the Central this year. Well, scratch that last sentence, we all know why and how they won the Central, simply put no one was capable to except the Twins.
