Yes he has won the AL Most Valuable Player Award already because he was suppose to be going to the Packers vs Vikings game at Lambeau Field and I had purchased the tickets next to him because my 12 year old brother is a huge fan of him after meeting him in Florida a few years ago and he had to cancel out in the last minute because he had to go and except the award. Congrats Joe

They better sign "Baby Jesus" to a contract extension soon - no excuses! he is the face of the franchise. The Twins would be hypocrites not to, as they made Kirby Pucket the $3 mil man back in the day and made him the highest paid player at the time. You have to do that with your franchise main man.

It won't be just the money on Joe's contract. If I were Joe, I'd let the Twins know that he'd take less than "market" value as long as management committed (in writing) to spending the major league average on payroll for the team and fill some needs. Let's face it, after you have all the money you'd ever spend in anyone's lifetime, the only thing left are rings. Jeter has 5 of them and would love to show them off to Joe personally.

Hey EyeToldYouSoGuy,

Kirby was baseball's first six miilion dollar a year man. Then Rickey Henderson had to sign a contract for $1 more.

Way to go, Joe! Now, let's get some pitchers to throw to him.

sign him, a new starting pitcher, and dish tolbert, casilla, punto, buscher, and all the other offensive useless infielders. Come one, there is still time to make sure the pohlad name is remebered for being great competative owners rather than cheapskates that leeched off the MN fans.

He better win MVP too

The individuals who win the award know about it roughly two weeks before the award is actually given so that they can make preparations to have their family and friends present if needed/wanted.

Hey, Pat!

I stand corrected. It seemed soooo long ago that the Twins would consider opening their wallet (almost 20 years ago?). Rickey's in the Hall. Hopefully, Joe can keep it up for another 10 to 12 years and join him. However, Joe gets points for class.

Throwing out the hometown bias here, Laird should have won this award. He was a beast down the stretch. The Gold Glove award has become a popularity contest lately, see Derek Jeter. Jeter is a shell of his former self. Heck, Michael Young won it a couple years back and he's a terrible fielder, but he did hit .330 that year, and that's what people remember. You have to be good offensively to be considered for this award, ridiculous.

I hope Carl's boys remembered the combination to the safe because signing Joe is going to cost them lots of money which Carl had plenty of. Congrats Joe. I hope you do not get Yankee fever.

Mauer is one of my favorite players in baseball right now but J-rod is correct.

I do think Joe should win the MVP and I think baseball writers will agree.

See you in New York or Boston number 7. The Twins won't pay you your quota and will say say we are just a small market team that can't compete with bigger markets thus not being able to afford you. They will also venture to say as good as you are (despite record MLB numbers), you are worth 5 tripple AAA players.

It is going to take a ridiculous amount of money to sign Mauer. It will be really interesting if the Twins are willing or able to make that commitment.
