Now if only management can fix the sign on the Patriot Freeway to advertise, maybe they can fill the stands...

There would be more fans if the tickets weren't so expensive. Same for the beer and food. The stands are usually empty which provides no atmoshphere. Not to mention, the Diablos pretty much suck. Well, at least the Diamond girls are cuties!

No MLB affiliation, no patronage on my part!

I respectfully disagree with Adios. I live in Houston but will travel to Frisco, Round Rock, San Antonio, or Corpus Christi to see professional baseball before I will go to see a major league game. I don't have anything against the Astros in particular - they're no worse than any of the rest of them. But I prefer paying $10 to $50 for good seats. I also prefer $4 for a parking spot one half minute's walk from the stadium entrance versus $15 plus a 15 minute hike on the wrong side of downtown Houston. Then there is the between inning and after game entertainment...very important for my wife, who tells me that she enjoys minor league ball much more than major league because of this. There's also a much more intimate "feel" to the game in a minor league ball park. The only thing I don't like about going to affiliated minor league games is that I know that my ticket fee is going to defray the expense of the major leagues farm system. I really resent the monopoly that the major league owners and players have been allowed to develop. The rule that prevents an affiliated minor league team from being located in the same area as a major league team without the major league team's permission should not be legal. What other kind of business gets to do this? This is one reason for multimillion dollar player salaries, high ticket prices and taxpayer subsidies to owners. If we fans could get behind independent baseball in a big way we could put an end to this craziness in less than a single season. If an independent team would get started in the Houston area, I would back them as much as my free time and finances would allow. |
