Full story: Fox6 16
To close or not too close? That's the decision school districts across the area will have to make with the coming snow storm. Full Story

I think it is terrible MPS did not close down. Private schools follow MPS and we do not have buses. Our families drive their children to school and with deep snow and blowing, there could be accidents. MPS should think of other people.

Your joking, right? Terrible? Seriously? Are you an MPS teacher who didn't want to work today?

Why is it that we get a little snow, and people think it's armageddon? Because the NEWS PEOPLE tell us it's armageddon! Get your lazy rear out of bed and go to work/school!

Apparently they made 2 poor choices. First not to close even tho this storm was well-announced and then decided mid-day to send kids home. Why bother? What difference does it make if they have to walk home in treacherous condidtions, busses sliding all over or getting stuck at noon or 3 p.m.? Should have closed for the whole day. Now you have kids with mom or dad already at work or who knows where, who aren't there when kids get home. How does MPS reach parents to let them know when many don't even have working phone numbers? Now the safety of kids is REALLY jeapordized because someone didn't make the right call at 5 a.m.?

Aren't MPS students and teachers dumb enough, w/o missing any more school? They really ARE the toilet of the Midwest.

That was very rude HUGH JASS you dont sound to smart yourself, but I think if the roads are too bad then yes the school should closed better have them at home then in a bad accident. But if the roads are clear and the buses are able to make it at an reasonable speed then keep the school open. All kids need as much education as possible rather its MPS,Private and charter schools as well.

I am not lazy or an MPS teacher. I work for a private school and I care about the safety of our children.

it is to cold to have children out in this cold. some parents are thinking of the well being of there children, and others maybe wanting schools to close so thet can have a day off from work. i would prefer that they close because i wouldn't want nothing to happen to my two children. plus my daughter's school already sends notes home because there classroom isn't warm enough so they want the parents to dress our kids warm, so i thimk that they should close.

I think you people got way off subject!!! How did we go from students being safe to them and the teachers being dumb??? I think everybody should have stuck to the question they asked and not have been so rude and disrespectful to each other!!! The point here is the large amount of snow fall is dangerous and why does MPS put our kids in danger like that!! Now why not have a snow day now because the weather is bad and just make it up when the weather is better or on one of these other days they have off for no reason at all??? I don't see why that wouldn't work!!!

As a rule, it takes quite a bit for MPS to call off school, it has been that way since I was a child and attended MPS. As a parent, if I feel conditions are unsafe to drive in, or too much snow/too cold for the kids to walk in, then I will keep them home that day. I don't need MPS to make that decision for me.

Good grief, all. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction demands a minimum of 180 instructional days (N.B. five out of this 180 are allowed for parent-teacher conferences). Any days lost beyond the 175 mark must be made up prior to closing school for a given academic year.
