With gas prices rising daily and setting a record pace in [local state], weary travelers and everyday commuters are feeling anxious. But did you know that finding resources that are within your budget can be a smartphone app away? In fact, there is a wealth of applications available that can make your life easier and save you time and money while you are on the go.

“Smartphone users have access to nearly half a million apps available through Google Play that can help to save you time, money and hassle,” explains Laurie Poellinger, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Wisconsin.“Our associates are ready to help you to find the perfect device and show you just how cool and useful this technology can be. Customers can learn about these apps at one of our monthly Device Workshops, which are held at many U.S. Cellular stores.”

Since you are using your phone to find the best prices, why not get a great deal on a new smartphone, like the Samsung Galaxy S Aviator? Now is the perfect time to upgrade to the latest device and make the most of the great deals that are available. U.S. Cellular has the only points-based rewards program in wireless and providing customers with an opportunity to collect points that can be used towards a variety of phones, accessories, ringtones, and faster phone upgrades. Customers can get points for paying their wireless bill on time, adding an additional line or referring friends and family.

Here are a few of the most helpful apps that are available on the market, together with tips on how you can use them to save money:

Find the Cheapest Gas – With the Gas Buddy app, you can find the cheapest gas prices available without driving all over town. This free app identifies the gas stations closest to your current location and compares current prices. It is available for download on Android™-powered, Windows® phone and BlackBerry® devices. It’s a great application for finding the best prices without using up extra fuel in the process.

Save Money Commuting – Compare the cost of the various commuting options in your city or town by referencing a website on your smartphone at . This site can help you compare the costs of a bus ride, train ride or even car share. It also provides a great tool that allows you to compare make and models on cars and estimate the operating and maintenance costs.

Avoid Parking Tickets – Apps like Parkmobile help you locate parking spaces at metered or timed parking lots. And instead of using coins, or estimating the time you need, use this app to start, stop and extend parking using your AndroidTM - powered smartphone and even pinpoint your GPS-location. It can also help you to avoid tickets and parking fines by recording the location and time at which you parked and then sends you alerts as you near the expiration of your meter. You can also add favorite parking zones and view your parking history.

Save Both Time and Money – Your Navigator™ Deluxe, which is available on U.S. Cellular, offers all of the features of an advanced car navigation system on your smartphone, including voice turn-by-turn navigation enabled by GPS. Search for destinations, including gas stations, ATMs (to avoid un-necessary bank fees), restaurants, supermarkets and more. The system will automatically direct you to your desired location, saving you miles, time and fuel.¬¬¬

If you are a first-time smartphone user, are interested in upgrading to a smartphone, or if you just want to make sure that you get the most out of your handset, take advantage of U.S. Cellular’s free workshops that are designed to guide attendees through apps like these and all of the features and functions of their Android™-powered, Windows® phone and BlackBerry® devices. All questions are welcome and attendees don’t have to be a U.S. Cellular customer.
