I challenge those of you who wish to deny the Muslim people of Sheboygan county their !st Amendment rights to have the common decency to educate yourself about Islam first. I challenge you to get to know some folks of Islamic faith and then re-evaluate the idea of dehumanizing them. Like Christianity and Judaism, the root of the faith is love for all. A close friend of mine and one of the kindest and most generous people I’ve ever met is a Muslim man. The primal theme of his faith is “Love for all, hatred for none”. We have a lot to learn from him and other followers of Islam, and I hope that someday our society will mature to the point where we’re all able to take such lessons in.

As it stands, I feel truly horrible for you if you refuse to accept such challenge. I was where you are now and I know how much it sucks. I’m telling you from personal experience how much better you’ll feel when you set aside your own hatred and open yourself up to the world. We’re all human beings. Do the intellectual and spiritual work to reveal that people are basically good no matter what their faith and you will find that the world is a much nicer place.

Depriving citizens the right to assemble and express their spirituality as they choose absolutely flys in the face of the American ideals of freedom and individuality. Think for yourself. Think past fear. And remember that when one group of people can be denied their rights, your rights could very well be denied next.

As a native of Wisconsin, I am deeply saddened by the bigotry of equating Islam with Terrorism. No smart person equates Christianity with the terrorist act committed by timothy mcveigh in Oklahoma.
At one point American enslaved blacks, barred Jewish people from moving to certain neighborhoods, and now its time that we are bigoted to Muslims. Its truly sad.

That's quite an articulate and thoughtful response Johnny! I am shocked that someone with your intellectual capacity would prefer that their opinions were provided by Rush Beckcoulter. You must be so engaged in deep thought that you don't have time to give your fellow human beings the courtesy of getting to know them before you advocate the trampling of their Constitutional rights.

Open a Victoria's Secret on one side of that property and a Pork Brat store on the other side. Cook brats every day so the smell of cooking port drifts into the Mosque. Have fashion models display the products in the storefront window next door. See if they find that as offensive as I find a Mosque.

In a recent issue of Time, Pastor Wayne DeVrou of the First Reformed Church of Oosburg is quoted as saying, "The political objective of Islam is to dominate the world with its teachings ... and to have domination of all other religions militarily."

I hope he didn't say this, but if he did, then I'm bewildered. His statement is inaccurate and misleading. Even sadder, The Reformed Church in America and its missionaries have had a long and peaceful relationship to people of the Middle East.

This kind of inflammatory rhetoric might be found in a local tavern after a few beers and some brats, but never in a Reformed Church pulpit.

Tom,

Thank you so much for pointing out that the message of Christ is one of peace and inclusion, just as the message of Islam is. All great religions of the Earth are based on the idea that people are basically good, and that we all have the ability to view the world with compassion instead of greed, anger, and ignorance.

peace my brother,

Thank you for making such an important point Conor! We as a nation have progressed beautifully in so many ways. I celebrate that progress with you and share your concern at the prospect of regressing.

They (Islamic's) want to be treated equally but yet they (men) put themselves above the women.
What about "honor killings" "Stoning" is this a religion of peace.
When the Muslims rise up and speak out against the terrorist and remove them from their ranks I think the world would look upon them in a different light, but when the teachings of radicalism and terrorism are preached(shouted) from their pulpits I can understand the "other" sides view.

Islam, like Christianity, has a countless number of sects who all claim allegiance to it. The Bible has been used to justify slavery, and other forms of outright white supremacy (Christian Identity), and it was also in many ways the foundation of the Civil Rights Movement and other wonderful examples of humanity. Here is one example of Muslims who are taking a stand against violence:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/08/m...

I have a close friend who is Muslim, and he's a member of a sect whose Mosque in Pakistan was recently attacked by terrorists because of their vocal opposition to violence. 60 men, women and children were killed.

There are all sorts of Muslims who speak out against terrorism, just as there are all sorts of Christians who speak out against racism. Saying "Muslim=terrorist" makes no more sense than saying "Christian=KKK". The world is simply not that black and white, no matter how many chalkboards Glenn Beck flips over. Think for yourself and open your mind to information sources other than FOXNews, and you'll realize that the world can be as beautiful as you dare to imagine. Restricting sources of information leads to authoritarianism, totalitarianism, and genocide.

It is your personal responsibility to decide how you want to live your life; by learning things through direct experience (i.e. spending time with Muslim people and finding out for yourself what they're all about), or by having your thoughts and opinions dictated to you by unscrupulous people who make obscene amounts of money doing it.

I will not succumb to the beliefs of the Koran! Islam is a religion of hate......PERIOD! The Koran talks many times of killing infidels and i will not as an American, no matter what my beliefs are, give in to the attitudes of Islam taking over are country, along with Islamic people pushing their Sharia law on America! If Muslims want Sharia law, then i suggest they move to Saudi Arabia

So NOOOOOOOOOOOO is still my answer!
I also suggest you do more research

research? really!? okay, do turn me on to your fair and balanced reference materials. How is Islam taking over your country? Oh, other than you being whipped-up into a paranoid frenzy, The Patriot Act, and the trillions of tax dollars spent on "The War On Terror". I guess you are right in a way; a handful of terrorists, who happen to be Muslimsjust like Timothy McVeigh happened to be Christianhave everyone who takes FOXNews and conservative pundits as gospel terrified (see how that works) into throwing The Constitution out the window. Do you realize that all the anti-Ilsam hysteria, that you've bought hook-line-and-sinker, is EXACTLY what al-Qaida seeks to provoke? Islamic extremists (just like Christian extremists) rile-up followers by claiming that there is a "war on Islam (Christianity)", and here you are playing right along.

If you were honestly concerned with "Islam taking over your country", you'd embrace the many good Muslim people who happen to be your fellow American Citizens, thus negating Bin Laden's argument that we hate them. I hope you can find the courage to do that someday. Any coward can lash out blindly at people and things he doesn't understand, and that's exactly what you're doing.

What's the alternative? What do you think... wait. I mean, what does Rush Limbaugh tell you is going to ultimately happen? Are all the Muslim people on Earth just going to disappear? Are you going to flip chalkboards at them until they all love Jesus and wear George Washington shirts? Or do you plan to exterminate them all? Seriously. Have you ever thought of that?

It makes a lot more sense to me to get to know my fellow human beings and find ways to live in peace together.

Turn the other cheek...

So, Jesus was wrong about this? Is that what you are saying?

Intolerance begets intolerance. We should be setting the example for the world of how people of all faiths and of no faith can live together in peace. Shame on us.

Here you go ARNO, Now i need to get off to the Koran nurning on Sept 11th

Here's what the Book says:

Why would Obama support this belief?

answer: oh yes, he's a Muslim!

Here is what their Book says:

Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them. Koran 2:191

Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood. Koran 9:123

When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them. Koran 9:5

Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable. Koran 3:85

The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them. Koran 9:30

Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam Koran 5:33

Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies. Koran 22:19

Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them. Koran 47:4

The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them. Koran 8:65

Muslims must not take the infidels as friends. Koran 3:28

Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Quran. Koran 8:12

Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels. Koran 8:60

I for one, see a "Holy War" right here in the USA

ARNO, how can you defend scriptures like that of the Koran? Where in the Holy Bible does it say Christianity is the only Religion or to kill all who dont believe?
Wake up!
Its like Mexicans, give them something and they fest like roaches for the free food
Im tired of everyone coming to this country for free handouts cuz they cant fight for their own countries freedom!
My family has fought for the freedoms American citizens have today and i will not feel sorry for people who want to piggy back on my family who have given the ultimate sacrifice!

30 seconds of googling produced a refutation of your passages:

http://www.open.salon.com/blog/taconia/2010/0...

..and did you seriously ask me, "Where in the Holy Bible does it say Christianity is the only Religion or to kill all who dont believe?" Really?! Ummm. It kinda says kill nonbelievers all over it. A few quick examples:

"anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death." (Leviticus 24:16)

"If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant, and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death." (Deuteronomy 17:2-5)

"If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery." (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)

...so yeah. Did you actually read the Bible at all? Or do you just rely on Glenn Beck to read it to you?

News Flash: we are all human beings. Muslims, and Mexicans, and gay people (I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume they're on your s**tlist too), are all every bit as human as you are and they have every right to exist, just like you do. Unless you want to just kill them all, you're going to need to find a way to live in peace with them, right? So ask yourselfthe part of you that can think and reason and empathize with other human beings, not the part that has assumed the load of a fundamentalist agenda and is desperately struggling to maintain itdo you have the courage to define your own view of reality, or do you want it provided for you?
