to me if you have a car with out insurance then why should you get a penny from anyone no matter who they are , when the state says you must have insurance for the car .FEMA should just work with them plp that need homes and not the once that had there car under water with out insurrance .

Great point Topper..If you didnt have insurance to begin with, you shouldn't get help. If it would have been a accident that damaged their vehicle, no one would be paying for it, but once again they find a way to magically help the useless and lazy

HOWEVER...There are people who follow the law and have liability insurance on their vehicles (as per the law) and would not be covered in such an instance if their vehicle were to become damaged. And before you say that they should have had comprehensive insurance, think: who puts comprehensive insurance on a car that's worth $500 or $1000???

I do agree with your thoughts that if the individual had no type of insurance in the first place, then they should be out of luck!

Stop acting like you people are model citizens. This is unfortunate for any one to have a vehicle damaged insurance or not. We should all have insurance but reality is since we are the 4th poorest city , who can really afford it. Not everyone can. You shoul dbe out of luck for commenting. Why would you want to see anyone affected. some people have nothing else better to do with their lives besides trying to educate people on what they should have done. Do you have a 800 credit score, probably not, so why then did you not pay your bills on time? Same paradox. topper and stick girl I hope you find yourself in a situation where you need alittle help, it will teach you something about your tongues that you cant tame. Lay off of other peoples misforuntes.

I had full coverage on my vehicle. The issue is that FEMA will not cover my car because I had insurance. Well let me provide this question: My car was a brand new 2010; there is no blue book for my vehicle; therefore I was upside down on my loan. When the insurance company attempted to figure out how much to give me for the car they used the 0.17/mile that most dealerships use. I am a traveling nurse so of course I had a lot of miles on my car. How is it fair that I had the insurance to cover my car, I was in the area with the worst flooding for work, and I will get no assistance. I can not purchase another car because I can not afford 2 car payments. I am still paying the $300 a month for a vehicle I do not have. Also I have lost the down payment that I made and my trade-in that I also had. It sickens me that most people look at anyone wanting/requesting assistance as those who stood in line for food stamps and shouldn't have. I am a hard working individual and I am getting nothing out of the situation nor do I want anything "extra". What I would like is for FEMA to pay the remainder of my loan and at the very least give me 1/2 of my trade-in value and 1/2 of my down payment!!

FEMA has informed a friend of mine, if they DO NOT HAVE Liability Insurance they will not offer assistance for repairs. Either way ... insurance or not the citizens need help.

Final point, people should mind their own business. If you weren't affected, WHY DOES IT MATTER?... Get your panties out of a wad...

Called Fema and they stated that he misspoke. Not our fault that he did, since he represents Fema and he said it, they should honor it. I am appealing mines. If Im in an expedition with water up to my doors thats a problem.

K-O Bonehead. Who carries full coverage on older cars? Liability (minimum coverage) is all that's required, and it does not cover damage to your own vehicle. If you're driving a 10+ year old car, the yearly premiums you pay are more than the insurance company will reimburse you anyway. On top of all this - even if you have full coverage, insurance companies typically don't cover flood damage (better read the really small print at the bottom of your policy)You trust insurance companies too much.

I lost my beautiful car to sandy.. Liability but no comprehensive(didnt even know waht that was). If Fema doesnt help me i am devastated beyond recovery. For those posting that they feel i should get nothing, you should be ashamed. I am in need of help and if it was you in my shoes u would be singing a completely different tune...Idk if Fema will give me anything yet. geico is not, so i should qualify for help with my car?

@ Topper. First of all Fema does not pay people for cars that dont have insurance. You must have liability insurance to to receive help from Fema and ur car has to be registered as well.. So I feel like if Fema is helping people with needs no matter what they are its a good thing and should not talked about for doing so. Some people can not afford full coverage and u should'nt be mocking them for it.. Know the situation before u talk about it

my car had minimal liability coverage. FEMA is apparently just waiting on the proper proof of forms to mail. yeah we're that behind on it, its a car valued at 3.5k, wonder how much we'll get back.. worried we'll get scrap money.

There's not a person in this world that can convince me that he/she have never received some help of some form. If I could sit down and interview some of the people who point fingers at those in need...10 out of 10 I could explain how he/she was helped along the way.
