Military program helps sex assault victims

In a women's restroom at Sheppard Air Force Base, a pink poster features two wine glasses and a sobering message. 'You may not be the only one looking to have a good time. Watch your glass; you never know what someone might put in it.' The poster gives information about date-rape drugs and a phone number for the base's sexual assault hot line. The program, which also includes training classes, is similar to those at all military academies and Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine bases worldwide.

Here's a better idea: don't go out to these bars and get something to drink at them in the first place, unless it is non-alcoholic.

The fact is, unfortunately, that people are going to keep on drugging both women AND men until we loosen our sexual morality and both sexes are a lot more free with their sexual favors, to the point where people do not feel that they have to drug/rape someone in order to have a sexual encounter with someone else.

The dynamics of sexual assault are not about sex; sexual assault and rape are crimes of power and control.

Rape is the most horrific, invasive thing that one person can do to another.

It is never the victim's fault. Our society needs to take a hard line on prosecution of sex crimes.

The most important thing to do is to ensure the victim's safety, get them medical and emotional help, and BELIEVE them.
