Kinzinger holds 11-point lead over incumbent Halvorson in latest survey

NEW LENOX – Voters in the Illinois 11th Congressional District believe the country is on the wrong-track and are ready for new representation in Congress, according to polling released Monday that shows Republican challenger Adam Kinzinger with an 11-point lead over incumbent Rep. Debbie Halvorson.

Commissioned by the Kinzinger for Congress campaign and conducted by Public Opinion Strategies of Alexandria, VA, the survey of 400 likely voters occurred Aug. 4-5 and has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.

“Congresswoman Halvorson campaigned as an Independent thinker and then went to Washington and walked in lock-step with President Obama and Speaker Pelosi, despite vocal opposition back home. Her constituents have been waiting to be heard, and know Nov. 2 is that opportunity,” Kinzinger said.“As we travel the District and meet with voters, we see the enthusiasm for new leadership firsthand but it is heartening to see it confirmed. Still, I remind all voters that there are still nearly three months to go, and we must continue to spread our message of creating conditions where businesses can expand and add new jobs, stopping runaway spending and ensuring accessible and accountable leadership.”

Specifically, the poll revealed:

Kinzinger leads Halvorson 51-40 percent, with seven percent undecided
Among high interest voters (those who rank interest at 8-10 on a scale of 1-10), Kinzinger’s lead expands to 57-35, with seven percent undecided
Twenty-six percent of respondents believe the country is headed in the right direction, while 68 percent believe it is on the wrong track
Thirty-one percent of respondents support re-electing Halvorson, while 55 percent think it is time for new representation

The findings build on a previous Public Opinion Strategies poll conducted in March, which showed Kinzinger leading Halvorson 44-38 percent. Kinzinger also became better known to District voters during the time between the polls, raising his District name ID to 60 percent, from 50 percent in March.

“The momentum to win on Election Day is strongly on Adam Kinzinger’s side,” concluded Glen Bolger of Public Opinion Strategies.
