So the giant space ants have revealed themselves and their dastardly plan for world domination at last.

I, for one, welcome our insect overlords, and volunteer to help round up the remaining humans to toil in their sugar mines.

How dare these aliens circumvent established procedures on U.S.A.F. nuclear procedures. The next thing these rude visitors from another galaxy will do is to cut our cable television and interrupt the supply of soda pop and ice cream.

In the name of saving our way of life, maybe we should nuke the aliens when the return.

The US military developed and tested its own UFOs for decades. They were always flown at night to diminish being spotted by civilians. The basic UFO was a flying saucer powered by a turbine engine and having a three legged landing gear. It flew by downward thrust and was equipped with a variety of lights including powerful searchlights to scan the earth from various altitudes. It also had a lighting system designed to blind any observers on the ground to prevent visual ID of the craft and to blind cameras. There were several crashes of these aircraft. If the single turbine engine malfunctioned in mid flight the saucer would fall out of the sky. They couldn't glide without power like an airplane because they had no wings. The military finally discontinued these particular experiments after numerous fatalities and the realization that the craft were unsafe and lacked desirable flying characteristics. Their interest to the military was their ability to hover off the ground or in the air without propellers which allowed them to land in tight areas that helicopters could never get into.
The military test flew these very craft over US nuclear facilities to test defenses and to test the feasibility of disabling nuclear missiles using on board EMP devices to destroy missile electronics in the launch silos.
Nowadays the missiles have hardened electronic launch and guidance systems which are immune to EMP.

They (the aliens) are watching you, Kristy.

Mr_Bill was in Madison just last August.
Stayed in the Crestwood Suites on Myatt. Very nice. I visited Andrew Jackson, ate at Calhouns, and Sonic, and Woodies, had a great time.

I found the gentlemen speaking at the National Press Club entirely credible. Their experiences were quite real. However, there are other NON-alien explanations for what those men witnessed.

Two possibilities:

1. The witnesses saw (and were meant to see) experimental efforts to technologically simulate appearances of UFOs. Satellite, air, even ground-based programs to project the appearance of alien craft are quite possible, and may have been or still be in development for the purpose of intimidating enemies, or even disguising use of WMDs by fake alien scapegoats. Such programs would necessarily be top-secret to be effective.

2. Military science has been working intensively for decades to find ways of disabling or re-directing enemy missiles loaded with nuclear warheads. The capability to interfere in the launch, trajectory or function of nuclear weapons systems would be a formidable defensive weapon in itself. These witnesses may have seen trial runs of experimental technologies. Again, such anti-nuke technology would necessarily be top-secret.

...But, who knows...could be aliens...?
