Our great city is beginning to pay the piper for relying on developer's money since it started... Note, that due to developer funds slowing down as income to the city esp. for city lights, the city is now trying to raise taxes to make up for the short fall...Sad thing, if tax is not passed (and I am reading it will fail due to low turnout), the city cannot aford to turn off the lights and cannot afford to keep the lights on......
As a city, we need to operate with less developer's money and political clout. We are building tax traps for the near future. we need to cut back the influence of developers especially those whos track record appears to be lacking meat (my interepretation of the stated developer's track record... do things right...don't rush. less landscaping to save costs...come on....rushing leads to bad decisions and overruns and products that don't meet specs.

what i dont get are the numbers - 1.8 million square-feet of building, even today, is a minimum of 160 million dollars; add interest at a minimum of 80 million and the lease payment of skechers of 225 million doesn't cover the outlay. very very best case scenario, the project breaks even in 28 years; typically a developer wants to hit that point in year 16 at the latest, leading me to wonder what this guy is thinking.

White is getting old, but he's an honest guy who has lived in MoVal forever and cares about doing the right thing for the citizens. The fact that a developer spent that much money to defeat him is a big tell.

The carpetbagging developers have ruined this city for over 30 years. Not much left to screw up when the only vision the city has ever had is development on the cheap and political payoffs, not quality of life for its citizens.

I wonder how many jobs he is going to give to unemployed American workers instead of illegal workers. it is a known fact that a good portion of illegals work in the construction industry. And dont say they would be taking away jobs Americans dont want.

"Benzeevi said in an interview this week that he never expected so much difficulty once the council gave its initial approval to the Skechers building."

Really?!?! Has the guy ever actually developed anything? The plan approval is just the very first step in a process that can take months to years. That he expected it to take a couple weeks? Clear sign that he's a complete amateur that does not know what he's doing. All professional developers know what to plan for when setting up their timelines and building schedules. For him to have all kinds of "super critical" needs requiring emergency meetings and special treatment shows absolutely BAD planning on his part! So, what exactly is his track record? And, more interestingly, where exactly does all this money come from that he's throwing around so freely?

This Guy is shady No way in hell will this Distribution Center bring 1000 jobs. I have worked in Distribution for over 10 years now and never have I been at one that employs over 300. The one I work at now only employs 100 on a good day and it is 1 million square foot. Not to mention is this is going to be a new DC which will implement alot of new technology it will require less people.

So...who needs to follow laws?
Not to mention Iddo is complaining about staff - staff that has been CUT over the last two years because of the budget. Also Iddo didn't mention that he NEVERS wants to pay his bills.

"Three of the five City Council members consistently support Benzeevi. The three -- Richard Stewart, Jesse Molina and William Batey"

- Iddo bought Molina's seat for him.
- Because Batey was following Iddo's demands, nobody ran against him in the last election.
- Stewart will receive $$ his his November run (you already see how Stewart is bowing to Iddo during City Council meetings).
- Bonnie is not safe due to trying to stand up against Iddo over multiple issues.

Remember the electrial workers who showed up during a City Council meeting over the summer from the area and they were complaining that Iddo broke his promise about hiring LOCALS?!!!

Why did you guys believe Iddo in the first place?

Benzeevi is a crook who gets his way by paying off officials with contributions to campaigns and special committees whose only mission is to discredit the opponent. He acts as if everyone should worship him because a few non-union, low paying, part time jobs MAY become available at a warehouse. He cannot seems to funtion under the same rules as every other developer and has been granted exemptions by the council members who benifit from his money. Anyone who says what a great guy he is (Geller, Stephens, Baca, etc.) is on his payroll. He is corruption at it's finest. Next he will want to be crowned King of MV!

You want to see corruption at its finest, check out either Bonnie Flickinger or Robin Hastings.

Bonnie has been shaking down developers for years to fund her pet projects like the M on the Mountain, the Y, and the 21st Birthday Party. it's quite disgusting the way she will hit developers up for money while they are trying to discuss their projects with her. It's also illegal, but since she controls the Police Department, there's nothing that can be done about it, besides throw her out of office on November 2nd.

Hastings voted for Skechers after saying she opposed it in hopes that the vote would curry favor and get her $40,000 campaign debt paid for. That didn't happen and she's anti-Skechers again. Hastings isn't up for re-election until 2012, but maybe a real recall effort in 2011 would get her slimy County-style politics out of Moreno Valley a bit faster.

Thank goodness a reporter has been assigned to report on the very dis-functional politics in Moreno Valley. This is very clear. As reported by the Press Enterprise, Benzeevi gave Councilman Richard Stewart's law partner hundreds of thousands of dollars. Stewart then voted to change the general plan, a plan that had been developed by our citizens. The plan was changed from a well thought out planned community, to a plan that will allow Benzeevi and others to build numerous ware houses. No body has mentioned the terrible pollution the deisel trucks will bring to our community and the health problems it will cause our children. Please wake-up, Richard Stewart needs to go.

Blah blah blah diesel....you don't even know what you are talking about. The trucks that will be used have to meet the state's new emission standards, so the pollution you are using in your scare tactics is not an issue.

Would it hurt you for once to tell the truth in your postings and just admit that you don't care if people have jobs or if Moreno Valley goes bankrupt? A little intellectual honesty by you folks would go a long way in this debate.

I'm sorry to hear that Benzeevi and company ran Charles White out of office. He was on the March Joint Powers Authority. Although I was on the opposite side of the DHL issue, he always struck me as a pretty fair, thorough guy who actually read expense reports, listened to the staff, and had good questions about whether projects were actually in the public interest. Maybe that is not good politics in Moreno Valley, however.

I think that is great what he is doing and this will bring jobs to the community because its a lot of people that cant find local jobs in the city and when a city has no jobs and a lot of people unemployeed the crime rate goes up like it is doing now!!! Kudos to the guy & i would be willing to help anyway i can!!!

Two things are very obvious after reading this article.

1)Bill Bopf is incompetent,

2) Robin Hastings is corrupt.

Bill Bopf wrongly recommended against approving permits for Skechers through a combined agreement process that is used in every city that has major developments like this. It's so common in LA, that they have a form for it.

Yet Bopf said it was illegal to do so. He either lied to his City Council or he was just plain ignorant. The Court spanked Bopf and the permitting agreement was approved.

This is the same Bill Bopf that failed to turn in his application for City Manager, sat int all the interviews for his successor and reviewed their resumes, then said he wanted the job. As his incompetent performance has shown, he's not qualified for the job.

And the sleazy back room deal Bopf was engaged in to re-enter the City Manager's race shows that he's unethical, just like Councilwoman Robin Hastings.

Robing Hastings ran in 2008 saying she would Skechers, then ran up a $40,000 campaign debt that she was personally liable to pay. When she was in office she voted for Skechers in hopes that it would curry favor and contributions to pay off the debt. When the money never materialized she turned against Skechers.

Maybe that type of pay-for-play vote selling is how things are doneit's done at the County of Riverside where she works as a staffer, but it has no place in Moreno Valley, Ms. Hastings. It's why Frank West was thrown out of office, and it's why you are a one-termer as well.

Since Benzeevi is not even registered to vote in Riverside County, one needs to question where he lives and why he should have such influence on our City. The fact he is always behind schedule in submitting the necessary documents to the City, shows he has no expeirnce in completting any project. I beieve he got approval in 1990 from the city to build the Moreno Highlands project. That project was to result in about 7,000 homes and 20,000 permant jobs on the lands east of Skechers. His faioure to build some of those homes during the past 20 years has notheing to do with the present economy. Why isn't that project built with all those permanent jobs for Moreno Valley residents. The 700 construction jobs have mostly been given to those who are outside of Riverside County. Skechers will simply allow those working at their Ontario Warehouse to drive 30 minutes to Moreno Valley to their new toxic warehouse and therfore again very few jobs for us.

The three yes boys on the City Council need to GO and the first chance is Richard Stewart this November.
