Appeals Court denies Government Motion to Screw over Gay Air Force Hero

Dec 5, 2008 | Posted by: Paulathesurfmom | Full story: lezgetreal.com

Maj. Margaret Witt has long been a True American Hero…

In her career of 18-plus years, the decorated operating room and flight nurse from McChord Air Force Base earned stellar reviews for her work, which included helping to evacuate the nation's wounded troops and humanitarian missions to aid civilians.

In 1993, Maj.Witt was a poster woman for the Air Force's flight nurse recruiting program.

In 2003, she was awarded the Air Medal for her Middle East deployment and, later, the Air Force Commendation Medal, for saving the life of a Defense Department worker.

Less than a year later, after an Air Force investigation, Witt, a reservist, was drummed out of the Air Force.

Her offense: a committed relationship, with another woman, a civilian, from 1997 to 2003 in their home, miles from any military base.

I hope she gets justice and the pension and other benefits she clearly earned.

From the article:

>>The appeals court noted that the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003 struck down a Texas criminal statute penalizing homosexual conduct, and said Witt’s case should be evaluated in light of that ruling.

The Air force appealed that ruling to the 9th Circuit and asked the court to hear the issue with all the judges present. Yesterday, in a 4-3 decision, the court said no.

That means the case will go forward and keeps alive the challenge filed by Major Witt.<<

Let's keep hope...

This country needs to stop this craziness. You cna't justify this on any level. If the US does not want gay people here, they need to give me back all my tax money and I'll go to Canada, Norway, or Spain. I hope that Obama was telling the truth when he said we would change this country and the world. I don't see it in his appointments thus far.

Obama has already gone back on his pledge to scrap DADT and has said he won't even consider it for a year or more.

So now we know what he thinks about "EQUALITY".

And unfortunately MOST gay people fell for the Democrats again, hook, line and sinker.

Then they go back on their promises and say, "We can't do that now." ("or ever").

And MOST gay people fall for them lies time and time again....

MOST gay people NEVER learn.

(Btw, I am a Libertarian, take voting seriously, have voted in EVERY election since 1976, and have NEVER vote for a Democrat and NEVER will.)

I exited the USAF myself before being outed. I understand her fight. I had but 5 years left for benfits of retirement. I gave all of it up to live a life without lies. I have never had a regret for leaving, and fully support her and others like her fighting.

It is time for a change, this is but one.

If according to this article that the Military does in fact discharge 900 gays, lesbians and bi-sexual servicemen/women every year, then in the last 10 year or so of DADT, there have been over 9000 members discharged
Some how that is just wrong
The Governement knows that her being a Lesbian did not disrupt her units cohesiveness
In fact, I am sure that she has had members from her unit testify on her behalf
This is why the DADT policy is so wrong
It removes qualified people who have good service records from something that they love doing
Again it is okay to be gay and bleed for your country just as long as you don't tell anyone about it

Also a card carrying Libertarian, used to be a Log Cabin Republican- tired of liberal democrats that take gay votes, and then back stab.

Sometimes people have to do the right thing, even if it is not the popular thing.

Everyone must remember that 40 years ago, vast majorities of voters, voted for segregation, voted to keep it illegal for blacks and whites to marry, to keep integrated families from adopting.

A gay person can no more change their innate sexual orientation, than a black can change their innate skin color.

I like you already. Let us not forget which Democrat president (with a wife who is a senator) SIGNED Don't Ask Don't Tell into law. He who had not only normal veto powers but line item veto powers as well. May he rot. Oh, that's right. He IS rotting by means of greaseburgers and whiskey.
I just discovered, after voting as an Independent for 40 years, that I fit squarely into the Libertarian Party, according to a computer test I took. Although I have not yet registered (ever in my life), I am considering actually joining the Libertarians.
It is obvious at this point that the GOP is fading out. The Dems are so split up they don't know what they are.
I come from a military family and support our military whole-heartedly. However, we are the laughing stock of civilized Europe because of our crazed, blind, hateful religious right and lack of human rights for all. Straight people in England are disgusted, and I'm not talking Oxford, I'm talking about rough and tumble ambulance drivers, you know -- straight guys.

The Military and government is recruiting non Americans for work in defence and military work, they are brining in 24,000 to do the same jobs they fire and discharge our military personnel for being Gay. Yet these from outside the country are not asked if they are gay, lesbians or terrorists.

Funny government we have. shoot themselves in the foot then ask for crutches and a medal for it.

I hope she gets her job and position back. Money isn't everything.

I have always been, and proudly continue to be a "Clinton-hater".

(btw, as an aside, Hillary Clinton, my Senator, is Constitutionally INELIGIBLE to be Secretary Of State. I do not know why nobody except CNN keeps pointing this out).

I remember when that B-A-S-T-A-R-D was impeached. It was one of the happiest days in my life and I smashed my head on the ceiling from jumping up and down with joy so much

And yet, there are STILL some people who SWEAR that that B-A-S-T-A-R-D was NEVER impeached !

:(

I hat them both and wish the damn carpetbaggers would leave New York.

Libertarianly Yours,

PEACE !

More people voted AGAINST Clinton in BOTH elections than voted FOR him.

He was the most corrupt president in 50 years.

And no one mentions how the Chinese Government paid him $20 million for his reelection funneled thru Indonesian Chinese. In a violation of all US election laws.

And then Clinton sold the Chinese Navy- which owns their shipping companies, the US LONG BEACH NAVAL BASE... in Los Angeles.(Where the Chinese now have a base on US soil, with weapons, armed guards and according to a few reports, they already have 3 nukes there- so when China threatens to wipe out Los Angeles if the US intervenes when they eventually invade Taiwan, they mean it.)

Most states require a person to be a resident before they can run for political office. New York has to tighten up its election laws and residency status.

Hillary represents not Liberty but Tammany Hall and political machines and manipulations.

Clinton attempted to end the ban of gays in the military completely, he ran into so much flack for the move he had to compromise to DADT. Even that almost destroyed his presidency. Without president Clinton this issue wouldn't have even been debated and now 70% of the people thinking the ban should end. About 70% of the people were against us back then. Learn your gay history!
