The moral of this story is that the arrogance of a few can have dire repercussions for the masses for decades. Barnes fled unscathed, Rhodes lives high on the hog, Wunder enjoys celebrity status among his faithful supporters. The residents and taxpayers get to pay more for less for the next quarter century.

This is true. the sad truth is the same behavior is beginning to show again. this city commission is planning to spend money on a park that doesn't exist...yet. A pond that was constructed improperly on poor engineering advice, which they still use. Annexations planned that are not needed. Contracts being awarded without proper bid process, by the way was changed to legal process because "of public outcry". Our streets suck and are never cleaned of snow as in the past when there was less debt (and taxes). A waste water, storm sewer, and water supply that all need repair. Remember just one storm or failure in any system and JC can't even borrow enough to begin to repair anything. Yes, this will take the better part of 20 years to pay off. In the mean time, once again, the residents will need to continue to cry out to these insensitive commissioners to hold the line on spending on things not needed in this financial situation.

Despite our problems, the new park being financed without taxpayer money speaks volumes about the people who truly love this city. Let`s all throw our support into this wonderful project. Let it be a testimonial to community spirit and unity. Thank those who are making it possible. This is a glimmer of hope for a troubled community.
