Population for a city, IMO, shouldn't mean that much when it comes to business scouting. They should look at the area they are going to be serving. Anyone been to Branson, MO? Their population is right about 7000, and look at how big that place is compared to Leesville. I know it's a tourist town, but there's a lot of missed business opportunities here. One problem is that there isn't a lot of local people with the desire to start a business and the net worth that it takes to jump start a business. Another problem is the demographics required of the franchise. I can decide I want to open up an Olive Garden here, but unless (speculation here) I have a half-million in assets and the local mean income goes up past a certain number to lead the head honchos of Olive Garden to believe that us hick-town folks can afford such a place, then we will never see a chain sit-down restaurant in Leesville that doesn't have a drive-thru.

Nsusr is a person that understands what's going on, but we are on the right track here. I know it's more fun to bitch and complain about things here, but sometimes we should give credit where credit is due. This money isn't specifically for commercial development, but residential development needs to come first in our case. Growing our population will lead us to those boring, cookie cutter, mediocre food chains that we feel will give us some sort of perceived status that we so crave.

Not sure why everyone assumes I am a man, so I decided to add my picture. As you can see I am a woman, I guess my comments lean towards a certain gender not sure. Or maybe a few of you think on a man is capable of such comments. Are my remarks and comments only those a man can make?

While I agree this very needed and could be the shot in the arm that Vernon Parish has needed. Why all the talk about the city of Leesville, this property sits in the parish! Is everyone assuming that the resicdents od the area want to come into the city? Has anyone check the property owners of the land or near by owners to see whom is going to prosper with this announcement? I can tell you one for sure Rose's business partner Dr Hennessee has acraged that will back up to all this development!!?

I hope he does benefit. Hell, I hope I do, too! I don't own any land over there, but expansion is good for all of us.
Surely you aren't stupid enough to believe that Jindal was influenced by Rose or Hennessee??

Not at all luckypants but I am smart enough to know hat Rose had a hand in picking the route before the plan went forward!! Don't think for one minute this is a Jindal plan, it has been being planned by ROse and Mike Reese.

good try. if i had not been to a few planvernonparish.org meetings last year before this was even a dream and seen where 90 percent of the actual people attending wanted the "bypass/parkway" i might have believed mr. rose and co. did this. sadly for the rose haters, the people of vernon parish voted this route.

Reading your post made me think they started building one of the two hotels but I now see only the dirt work has been done.
