Let's get real Hampton loves to spend our money. Why not turn the island at Fort Monroe into a casino bringing in traffic from the outside that will help the city of Hampton to clear the it's debt and may relieve the residents of heavy taxes (such as the excessive food tax, reduce Hampton property taxes and then use some of the proceeds to improve other parts of Fort Monroe to make a historic theme park (like Bush Gardens, King's Dominion or Disney examples). Would also boost employment for the local area. Also have beach resort area for those who would like to spend a day at the beach (for a fee areas could be fenced off and could put up small cabins for rent on beach for over night or weekly visitors who also might like visiting theme park and have another area close to the island with rooms so other might stay when visiting the casino. Let the casino and the rest of the theme and beach park have their own security for the island (paid by the casino income) and take some of the burden off the local police. On the land side of Monroe could have paddle boat and small water sports area. The size has many prospective values that could be used to improve the area while producing an income for the city, county and state.
