Oh OK, So I guess well just 'Pretend' that post didn't lose not only the DI school but the ENTIRE 30th Engineer Group with ONE battalion replacing it.(?)
Must be nice to blissfully drink the Kool-Aid
that uninformed civillians serve around here.
Does your little AIT and it's support people even compare demographically to a Regiment sized Engineer element, Oh and also the AMERICAN ARMY's Drill Seargent School??
I think not.
Well let's just say for academic purposes that this new school comes close to offsetting the losses from the BRAC causing the 30th Eng Grp & the DI course etc to leave post.
Your back where you started !
Where's the growth??
Especially if your counting any trancient Locked Down most time Privates in your figures...
So what are all these new buildings that were built out there for?
How big is an "Armor school"? How big is a "Armored division"?
How come what you are saying differs so much from what we see happening?
Why is the Army fooling us about this, to pay us back for our part in the Civil War??

Uhh Maybe because it takes loads of Mega Huge buildings to
house & maintain huge Abrams tanks used in the Armor AIT?
Ya think?
And who the hell says the ARMY is lying about anything?
That's Moronic.
The Army command could give way less than a rodents ass if there is any growth whatsoever In the surounding civillian area, so they've not left anything out from their end, or lied.(dumbass)
These newbie commanders were not even around when Benning lost the 30th Eng Grp OR the Drill Scool,(at BRACs begining) much less around when the new Inf Div that Benning was slated to get went to Savanah Instead, years ago.
Their only responsibility is to speak on the new armor center.
Your city Is the only one lying, and
leaving out the losses when citing troop gains.
But I'm actually starting to think that this growth misinformation is just
due to ignorance as opposed to actual lying.
Because all the civies really do is quote and re-quote what they heard on the TV news or quote what they hear here and there from this person or that person. I guess civilians are unable to subtract troop losses when they add new armor gains.
Oh well I guess the concept is just too much for them to grasp.
(maybe got something to do with all the 'needs improvement' schools in the area I don't know.)
Or maybe the maybe the descendants of simple Lint-Heads do not really have the means to think for themselves and get some real facts about how actual BRAC Benning troop losses would offset new school/center gains, and what exactly those losses were.
Or how previous mayor podasheff & City Manager BG Cavezza did not lobbey whatsoever for the new division for reasons unknown at this time. Which the mayor of Savanah lobbied fiercely for, and won.
Let's let them resort to smart assed coments about the army 'lying' to someone.

How can you say how things are in Alabama when you dont live here? Columbus is the worst for property taxes and priced high on the houses. The only thing i agree with you is that the crime rate is bad. I think you should rethink your statement about SLAMMED together houses, they have alot of them on post. I had friends that lived in the new house they built on post, stair rail were glued to the walls,AC leaking all over the house. The outsides were falling apart. So rethink before you talk

Not to sound blunt, but find out where all the black areas are and rent elsewhere in town.
Sorry not being racist at all but here in Columbus the main crime is in the black areas. Thats just the way it is. The newspaper started this brand new section called the weekly crime report, and the very 1st one was 100% black males suspects.
Also, Until kids are in HIGH SCHOOL, Post grammer & middle schools are 100% better and safer than MCSD schools. Weve got kids caught with guns knives, bad bad fights, all that stuff. Plus theres always the possibility of tresspassers doing bad things there, which I dont think would ever happen in a scchool deep in a secure closed post. Also way too many 'needs improvement' schools in Columbus. They dont play that on post.
I have always been impressed with the calibre of students who came over from Benning Elementary & Middle School. They are always much more prepared than our 'native sons', if you will.
I know its real exiting for you to finally be living out on your own 'off post',
But take heed, your childrens educational and possibly career paths will be very adversely affected if you remove them from the better post schools and enroll them in our Public primary & middle schools. Please dont give them 2nd rate schooling off post with budget cuts getting DEEPER, & DEEPER every quarter, Just so YOU can live your exiting new 'off post' life.
Alabamas schools I would have to say are even worse. I know A LOT of soldiers duped into getting houses over their and THEY ALL regret it.
MANY reasons. Inferior messed up crooked houses SLAMMED TOGETHER by inept builders cutting corners that would NEVER fly in GA.
2. Terrible (nonexistant) Zoning. You have quarter million dollar mini mansions RIGHT NEXT to clusters & clusters of ramshackle run down trashy looking single wide mobile homes. Most people have to ride through bubba trashyville numerous times on the way to and fro their hastily slammed 2gether subdivision.
3. Very Very trashy.(Literally)
There are so many areas with NO trash pickup in East Alabama, that a large large amount of it ends up right on the sides of the roads. AND THE KICKER IS NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. Like night and day.
I.E., when I first arrived to the area 20 years ago, I would cross the river and think to myself "MAN! This feels just like crossing the border into Juarez!!" "No joke!"
4. VERY VERY dangerous 2 lane 'Lee Rd' type highways all around in every direction. Not to mention death roads like HW 80 from 280 to the EAMS racetrack.
You definitely do not want your cherished children learning to drive on those crazy dangerous roads.
As you drive around, the Crosses on the sides of the road out there are way too abundant. And I do not make light of this as I think that is very serious. I have actually drove by & seen people medevac'ed by EMS helicopter on numerous occaisions right at the accident scene out there.
Just some food for thought.
No offense intended.

I don't have to re-think anything bcause I know what the hell I'm
talking about. For one thing, I don't think the house prices are very higher in GA than in AL, but I will say this, you get what you pay for.
And as far as property taxes, in GA you DEFINITELY get a whole lot more for your money on those than in AL. If those are your only nitpicks about GA then I rest my case. Does Russell/Lee Co. Make parents sign affidavits testifying that they live in their schools state etc? I think not.
And I know ACTUAL military soldiers, who will gladly tell you how sloppily and crookedly their 'new' houses were slammed together during the housing boom out there. Especially those neighborhoods behind the Wendys on HW 80. For Instance take the first right then another right into 'Autumn Creek' subdv. That main road is SO wavy & jacked up it ain't even funny at all. Try askin some of THEM what they think of Alabamas house building standards.
Then come back and tell me to 're-think'. And I can name some other jacked up neighborhoods out there too with the Slammed together excuses for 'new' houses too it's not just there.
And as far as you coming up with difficiencys In RENTAL UNITS??
On Post? Please. Those minor problems in a RENTAL UNIT hardly compare to putting your lifes net worth into the PURCHASE of a 'new'(?) house and finding all kinds of things wrong with it.
Nice try though, I guess..
PS just because I do not live there does not mean that I haven't in the past. Never Again.

Quit putting Phenix city down it is not a bad place to live not any worse than Columbus. Their are nice houses in Columbus and the schools are great especially Phenix City School System and the schools in it the system. I am so tired of people putting Phenix City down as a bad place when Columbus is just as bad, there are areas in every town that are worse than others that is everywhere. Any family in the military moving to Phenix City would be more than welcome so quit putting us down because we could put Columbus down to because there are a lot of schools in Columbus where parents have the opportunity to send their kids to a different school because they fall behind according to no child left behind law. love Phenix City and the school system.
