Not suprising considering the same generation gap is seen in the civilian world regarding gay rights.
Like all other gay rights issues, this one will be moot within a decade when all the old anti-gays have retired from the military, replaced by the next generation that is overwhelmingly pro-gay rights.
Marriage, military service, employment benefits, etc will all be settled within the decade.
