Others simply dont know what you deal with and that is a shame. As a society we are trained to bury these things and not acknnowledge them. Mental problems are a stigma in our society and we do not properly address them.

I too suffer from PTSD and have found several ways to try and deal with it, similar to yours. The drugs only help with the depression and the side effects are severe. marijuana is my saving grace. While I dont advocate use for anyone I certainly can say it has made me a happier person and MUCH safer to be around. It stops the dreams all together and stops the "triggers" from taking you into that "mode" without your knowledge. It lessens the side effects of the drugs and lessens the chance of loosing myself in that "defensive mode" where I am on automatic survival and cant get perspective.

Many things work well and medicine is just beginning to address this disease. I wish you the best my friend. Peace be with you!

Another free loading a-hole looking for a free ride. He's a criminal looking for more benefits, pure and simple. He's shameless in his quest. A freaking cook with PSTD, no mames. Freaking spoiled brat, acting out to trick the guv-ment into declaring mental, another lazy bum looking to take advantage of the system.

The VA has a huge problem trying to identify persons with true PTSD as well as other service-connected disabilities.

Some vets are very deserving while others are not. Some are denied benefits accordingly and deal with it. Others do not deserve treatment/payments but work the system and public heartstrings to get what they want.

Why doesn't the Tea Party to look into this? It's easy to go after illegal aliens and welfare Americans for raising taxes but what about looking into cheating Veterans? The issue probably too difficult to grasp for most of them. Plus, November is coming up...

@2myeye: El chovo del coco probably knows this guy first hand and did not have to deduce anything from a news story. I too, know this guy, and he is a shameless bottom feeder looking for his next target. Yes, word needs to get out about PTSD, but not sure a criminalistic sexual predator is the one we want delivering the message. Lots of folks with PTSD exist in the world, yet they have the moral fortitude to not become sexual predators! Not to mention, they don't usually tell lies to give a sense of self importance. I question how he walked around the compound with a round in the chamber of his weapon and the safety off...totally contrary to the actual protocol of not issuing rounds unless departing the area. I further question this because by the time of his court martial, he would have had an escort when out and about...and yes, 2myeye, I was there, so I know what went out...As I said before, the story of PTSD NEEDS to be told, but let's not detract from it's legitimacy by telling lies and touting our own agendas.

SSG Ewok you're right he's nothing but a fraud that's trying to milk the system because he got caught commiting crimes that were against Army Regulations...Plus cooks when he was deployed to Iraq didn't do what he's claiming he did...We still did not have KBR to work in our DFAC's so cooks were either cooking or doing 12 or 24 hour watch on towers. As far as from him suffering from PTSD...I know many soldiers know this that until this so called disease got a name it was just stress due to job....and then it became a virus that soldiers started using as an excuse to avoid deployments, get out the military and recieve disability.I personally know an E6 that was stationed with me while I was active duty that said he'll do anything to convince the doctors he's got PTSD ...he did research on it...now he's out the army...and recieving 100% disability.
Thank you

I would not be surprise if this book loosen up the red tape our government hold on our Soldiers fighting for Freedom as Mr. Butler states in his book PTSD MY STORY PLEASE LISTEN. I hope to see this young man on Oprah and visiting with our President. His book has some very eye opening subject and if you open your mind, eyes, and heart you will see that Mr. Butler is fighting really hard so that you Veterans receive your disabilities. Like he said you have the rights to protect yourself and family. If you have a disability tell your family that I'm not willing to go through the process in order to receive my disability benefits and see what and how your family looks at you. Something to think about AMERICA.

Thank you Mr. Butler at least your not scared to say you made mistakes in life. Know you are helping not just Veterans, but civilians who suffer from what term you use is dis ease of PTSD. This book will help out millions of people all around the globe because you wasn't scared to speak on all of the wrong doings starting with yourself all the way to the government. I love the way you put everything on the table. If God can forgive why can't we. Now your making news with your book worldwide and donating 5% of your book proceeds to the wounded veterans in Texas, and I see you have a NON-PROFIT Organization Butler For Vets.com assisting Veterans who cannot pay rent due to hard times and setting up funds for them to return to school and finish up their degrees. Outstanding Mr. Butler and GOD BLESS what you're doing.

To the people blogging about Mr. Butler being a terrible Soldier, you may want to read the book this man didn't have a chance to tell his side. Did you guys know that Butler never took money from finance for sexual favors worth $1500 to said Soldier. See you idots go by what othewr people say and then when the rumor gets back around,it's all twisted. I guess you Soldiers that where banging your squad leaders that where married, how can you explain that to your husband or wife. May be your spouses need to check the bank account to see if any funds are going on the first and last part of the month.
