NO ONE- not gay or straight, has any clue as to how many gays are in the U.S. or serving in the military. So long as there is discrimination the majority of gays will never be counted in any type of survey.

The only thing the Census and other surveys or demographics can tell us is the MINIMUM number of gays. If that is 2% minimum based on an actual survey, then we know there are AT LEAST 2%. It could be as high as 10% or 20% or 30% as well. Until everyone is comfortable coming out there will never be an accurate count.

So what if the paper pushers have no problem with it? The only polls that are relevant are those of the front line soldiers, and a majority of them are against it because it will likely increase the risk to our troops at the head of the spear.
The likely lowering of unit cohesion is why all the military branches say wartime is not the right time to engage in social engineering.
But then, you people don't really care about our military. This is all about YOU.
And if the majority of combat troops said they were okay with it, you'd be claiming the only polls that are relevant would be those of the support troops, or the spouses, or the kids, or their dogs......

Face it, YOU LOST! All the bigots were assuming that 99% of the ENITIRE military would be strongly opposed to gays serving openly, which is why you all pushed to have this survey done in the first place. Had you known how it was going to turn out- 70% IN FAVOR- then the GOPasaurs would have NEVER agreed to the survey. They would have been the first ones to say we don't survey our troops about military policy.

YOU LOST you bunch of hypocrites. Now man-up and admit it!

How are they going to make up for all of the trained military that will leave? We are in BIG trouble.

Charley, you have obviously never had to fight for your life or the lives of your loved ones or your country.

When you are in a war, you want the baddest, meanest, toughest Mofos on your side. Civilized armies get their a$$es handed to them.

I will be simple enough to replace the 2 bigots that get out because they have to serve with gay people. In fact, there are about 13,000 ready & willing to join up now.

Where did the number 13,000 come from? I can't remember where, but it's been projected that up to 246,000 men and women in the military may leave. If so, that's a difference of 233,000 troops and somehow I seriously doubt that everyone who might leave are straight out of basic training. And most of those surveyed and who indicated that they would leave were Marines. The toughest, badest Mofos. Are all of your 13,000 really that tough?

And I know it's a stereotype, but which would you rather have fighting on your side? The Marine redneck that doesn't want to shower with gays, or the gay that wants to shower with the Marine redneck. I know who I'd pick.

Who predicted the 246,00 number? Does it have any validity? Do you have any validity? Gays have been in the military for decades, maaybe even centuries.

By the way, are YOU in the military? I have been, and I wouldn't want you by my side. You're too stupid and emotionally screwed up, and I have much better taste in comrades.

Yeah, those Israelis are all pansies.

You've obviously never run into a crew of pizzed off female impersonators. They're the very ones that started the Gay revolution man. They might hide their cojones on occasion but when they bring them out you'd better watch out.

The military's so-called email survey is where the 246,000 number comes from. The same survey that Congress used for the repeal. So I would assume that even your BS detector would consider that valid.

However, no one cares how many gays were in the military centuries or even decades ago, but how many are in it now or will be in the future. There's no way that there are currently 246,000 gays and lesbians currently serving or that the predicted 13,000 can make up for the ones that are projected to leave.

Have I been in the military? Not as an enlisted or an officer, but my entire career was spent working for the department of defense alongside those who did enlist. Still know lots of enlisted men and women personally as well as those who have retired. And the vast majority of them do NOT agree with DADT being repealed. So are all of them stupid and emotional too?

Me thinks you are the pot calling the kettle black.

246,000, really? Please provide a link, I for one would love to see just what idiotic source put forth anything even resembling that. In fact I'd be amazed if we lost as many as 5,000 over DADTDP. Exhaustion from multiple overseas gigs is causing more than that each year.

I don't think a Marine redneck, regardless of his ignorance, would be one bit bothered by showering with another many, Gay or straight. Well not a redneck that's at all secure in his manhood and thinks with something other than his dick.

Let's just assume that those pizzed off female impersonators are tough SOBs. Do you really think that any enemy is going to take the U.S. military seriously with them enlisted?

As for the Israeli military, I can't find a single credible news source [Huffington Post and Berkley colleges can't count] that even addresses the before and after effects on Israel's military.

Tom,

Most 'rednecks' are not secure in their 'manhood', that's why the stereotype. But even the military men that I know personally think this is NOT good for the military; some of them with decades of military experience with both enlisted personnel and officers.

The 240,000 is approximately 10% of the current military force...10% of the email respondents stated that they might leave the military if DADT was repealed.
