No wonder i couldn't see any response. Well i been talking to Philip F. Smith my teachers uncle. He is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer. Told me great things about the coast guard. I just want to know exactly what schools to attend to get things done. Anything else i should know Kyle let me know.

Im 16 years old and a junior in High School. I have my heart set on the coast guard but Ive been wondering about grades. Im a B-C student and occaisionally a D but not failing. I was hoping that the fact that im a volunteer firegfighter, eagle scout, and on the varsity swimming team at my school would help? I want to be a rescue swimmer and I really want to join the day i graduate.

so i am 24 and have decided, after recently returning to college, that school isnt the best fit for me. although i have been thinking about joining the military for some time now, i recently decided that the coast guard was the way to go for me. unfortunately when i was 21 i got a dui and blew a .08. i heard that the coast guard is very selective and that the dui would most likely disqualify me from joining the coast guard but i figured i would give it a shot anyways. so in dec 09 i called a recruiter and explained my situation to him. he said it would not be a problem and sent me application packet. i filed it all out including giving and explanation for why i got my dui, why it wont happen again and why i want to join the coast guard. its been a few months now and i still havent gotten any word back from him. i just assumed that my dui disqualified me and i cant join. doesnt anyone know if the dui would be a disqualifying factor for joining the coast guard or should i try to pursue my interest in joining?

Hey. I'm 16 and soon life really about to start and I've been thinkin of some military branch for a while now. But I have food allergies, and the other branches don't want me because of them. So I was wondering if anyone knew about joining the Coast Guard with having food allergies. If anyone knew it'd be very helpful in trying to figure out if I should keep the idea in mind or shift course to something else. Thanks.
personally, I do not think you should give up hope on joining the military due to food allergies. Keep trying until you are approved. The bottom line is, if you want to do something bad enough, dont let anything stand in your way. You want to serve your country, do it. I dont see why you wouldnt be accepted over a food allergy.

I am 17 and have talked to a recruiter and he contacted me back wanting to set up an appointment and for me to fill out a basic application. Unfortunately, I have a misdemeanor that will be erased from me record when I turn 18 for petty theft... Will this stop me from enlisting?

I hope you can get in with the DUI. Maybe a letter to the Commadant, showing your desire?
I went in the USCG in 1980, seems like yesterday. For a young 18 year old it changed my life, It will change yours. It was a great experience. Basic Training isnt easy, but once you get beyond that, you will feel accomplished. I was an MK (Machinery Technician)in the USCG from 1980 to 1984 and working on Diesel Engines and Boilers. I ended up getting out, but the training and dicipline set me up for life.

I have a 4 year degree in chemistry, I am very athletic and a 97 AFQT. I am also an EMT. Will this shorten the wait list or increase my chances of getting onto AST school?

I know you have to weigh a certain amount and have a certain score on the asvab to even be considered to join the coast guard, but other than that what do recruiters look for in recruits? I've heard they are very selective and this is the only branch that really interests me. I have a high school diploma, but was unable to finish college. Would that hurt my chances of getting in?

I am 22yrs Old and I've become interested in the law enforcement in the military. I looked in the the air force, but was drawn to the situations the Coast Guards Law Enforcement deals with. My only concern is that I have 4 speeding tickets on my driving record. I haven't had one in 2 years though and My license has never been revoked or suspended because of it. Will these tickets be a deal breaker?

why is it that we have faxed Coast Guard applic. twice in 1 month and never heard a word back. In college w/2 minor speeding tickets on my record. Did ROTC for 4 yrs in H.S. but never heard a word back not even acknowledging they received it and are reviewing it... kind of unprofessional.

Iím joining the Coast Guard. I have already sworn in but I havenít received a reservation/basic training date. I swore in about 2 months ago and I havenít received a boot camp ship date yet. Itís been about three and a half months since we sent in the reservation paper for basic training and the recruiter keeps telling me that we should get a response this week for the last 6 weeks. Is anyone in the same boat? Iím concerned it itís just me or if its everyone. How long did it take you guys (or gals)?

Laura this changes frequently. If you want to get the job you want, shoot for a 70 on the test. Remember you have to distance yourself from the other 70,000 wanna be resuce swimmers. I admit I had high hopes after seeing the guardian movie. It is nothing like the movie. So before you go into that recruiters office remember you want to distance youself from everyone else, or else they turn you away as soon as you walk through that door and say hi.

"Just be careful, the recruiter got to keep the sign on bonus my family memeber was supposed to get because he lied and said there was none. Everyone else they went in with received it!!"

You're kidding right? Because we stopped going around with suitcases full of cash for recruiters awhile back... Or is it possible the recruiter manipulated your family member's direct deposit and got the money that way? My guess is that there is more to this than meets the eye. It's important to actually READ the enlistment paperwork before raising your hand - an annoyance/challenge for some I'm sure - but a wise move in the long run.

I need to know if I should go to college first before joining the coast guard then have them help pay off my loans or join first then go to school. Since they only pay for you to go to school once my friend suggested to try to make it on my own first. But I want to be a dentist so I will have to complete at least 8 years of schooling. I am so confused to what I should do because the ONE of the main reasons I would join would be for the help.

I have recently turned 28 with no previous military experience. Is there any chance or way of getting into the Coast Guard?
