I want to apply for OCS but....

Hi there, I am a recent college grad and am exploring all my options. I had never thought of going into the military, but I saw the CG and have been looking more seriously. I don't know a lot about the programs but from what I have read the OCS is the best fit for me.

I do have a few concerns though. I would really like to hear some feedback from people who know about the OCS, the selection process, what the 17 week training is like, etc. I am also curious from any CG what you do and don't like.

I really enjoy my lifestyle right now, it's not like I party a lot and do drugs, but I am a 22 year old girl who just likes being able to do what I want. But I am also interested in the options that CG offers.

Any comments would be great!

If you like doing what you want, when you want, where you want, then the military is not the career path for you.

Hey Elysia! I'm an Operations Specialist with the Coast Guard, I absolutely love it! I'm also 22 not a grad student,i was a cheerleader in my first year of college and i knew after a year i was not on the right path, college for me just didn't make sense i had no idea what to do with the rest of my life and i needed a change.. Growing up in a military family i guess made my decision more clear.. Yes you do have to give up a lot, Its not a glamorous life but the experiences and people you meet make it worth the while, esp. the benefits ;) i work a lot but i do have time off to hang with my friends and when i get the chance i like to tan :) so although to others i may be married to my job and the coast guard you learn to accept it.

It is true, The military isn't for everyone, Its a lot of self discipline.. Talk to a recruiter he/she should be able to answer all your questions no matter how silly! and Good luck

She is talking about the OCS program, which is 17 weeks. The regular enlistment boot camp is 8 weeks.
