For suicidal Army veteran, asking for help doesn't fit with military culture
As the military gives unprecedented attention to the mental health of its soldiers and employees amid a rising trend in suicides, Rawls' story indicates that even the Army's best intentions are not met with easy solutions.

Wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker
Suicide is slow with liquor
Take a bottle, drown your sorrows
Then it floods away tomorrows
Evil thoughts and evil doings
Cold, alone; you hang in ruins
Thought that you'd escape the reaper
You can't escape the master keeper
'Cause you feel life's unreal
And you're living a lie
Such a shame, who's to blame
And you're wondering why
Then you ask from your cask
Is there life after birth
What you sow can mean hell on this earth
Hell on this earth!!!
Now you live inside that bottle
The reaper's travelling at full throttle
It's catching you but you don't see
The reaper's YOU and the reaper is us
Breaking laws, knocking doors
But there's no one at home
Made your bed, rest your head
But you lie there and moan
Where to hide, suicide is the only way out
Don't you know what it's really about

Big joke, eh? My former husband ate his personal weapon while drunk and depressed. While everyone knew he was an alcoholic and violent in the home setting, he functioned well on the job and had a stellar record. All attempts to get help for him were blown off. BTW, he died at RSA.

My bad. I am handicapped and my voice program is wonky. I don't catch all of the errors. He died on active duty at Redstone and can not be described by any of your list. Have a good weekend.

Not funny you guys. You try explaining to your kids why Daddy came home from a hazardous duty tour a completely different guy and eventually blew his brains out. In spite of tons of counseling, as young adults, they still wonder if he would still be alive if they were better kids. They were both in early elementary school and no problem at all. This is a serious problem and does not warrant snide remarks.
