I like this part for the ones who think Leesville would survive without Fort Polk, hehehe.

"With the exception of state government, Fort Polk is the largest employer in Louisiana, with more than 16,000 military and civilian jobs associated with a U.S. Army installation that generates an estimated annual economic impact of $1.8 billion."

There has been much more purchased now with much more to come. I'm not sure if you are aware but it is a long, complicated, and painstaking process. It has actually been 4 plus years and still has a while to go. It's not like people are just sitting on their hands waiting for something to happen. Many people are working their tails off on this program daily.

I hope this all goes as smoothly as possible. I'd really like to see some units moved from bases like ft.hood and ft.bliss tx to ft.polk also,that'd be great to see.

Fort Polk buying all this land and in a short while no personnel to train on it....... going to be interesting to see all of the local businesses go belly up as they have been ripping off the military since the beginning.

you mean 14,000 acres? the 14000 that the military is already using? or the 28,000 that's about to be finalized? which 4900 are you referring to?

This is last year's article. He was talking about the 4,900 acres south of Peason Ridge that they purchased back then.

Just wondering how leesville has been ripping off the army? I've lived here for a pretty long time and I know a lot of business owners and I can say from personal experience that the business owners in this town try to accommodate the soldiers as much as possible

I too have lived here for a very long time and I see rip offs all the time! For instance...rent. If we didn't have a base here the rent wd be normal prices so that everyone cd afford it. Realtors know military get BAH so they jack rental prices up because the army is paying the rent. Go to a used car lot around tax time and see how they jack up the prices because they know 99% of military get large refunds. I cd go on allll night showing examples

Ok but that's not hurting the army . That's hurting us , he was saying leesville was so to speak "hurting the army "

And making prices higher dont exactly hurt the army at all , they make the houses around 800$ a month because they know the army will supply the funds for their soldiers with family's , but at 800$ a month range they have surely put their rental properties out of the average person in leesvilles range , so their for they have made the apartments available to soldiers by putting them in the army's range of affordability and out of ours

BS----just saying...local people pay the same prices as military personnel. Many places offer military discount, so if anyone's getting ripped off its the civilians.

I disagree. Civilians pay the same rent prices as military, it's high for everyone. Military isn't the only ones who get large tax refunds, civilians can as well. Depends on your yearly income and your dependents. Any city you go to in all types of stores jack prices up at tax time. That's not a military thing. They rip everyone off.

Leesville survived without Fort Polk before. Yes, it will hurt if Fort Polk is ever shut down. But, they will survive. After all, Leesville was here first.

Yeah it will survive on meth and whiskey. You cannot get a job paying more than $9 a hour in leesville now. Fort polk is where money is made by civilians in this area. If ft polk shut down yall would all be back to inbreeding worse than you are now.

Actually it was used with money from two years ago and it does mean something. It may not mean anything to you, but it is a great accomplishment for the local community and for the folks involved in the process. Please search around at how many bases in the last 20 years have tried similar programs and failed miserably. Every single one of them.

I'm not here to argue, though. Just know that funding is there and it's not going anywhere but to purchase more.

Part of that I agree with, part is just ridiculous. As I said before, Leesville will hurt if we lose fort polk. Meth and whiskey? Inbreeding? Smh...are you 10 years old or what?
