The trucking industry is not only hurting due to higher standards, it continues to suffer due to poor treatment of drivers. Gone are the days where drivers had a great relationship with a committed client or company. Here to stay, sadly, are the days of recruiter lies, dispatchers with little or no knowledge of driving, and companies who chew drivers up and spit them out, knowing tgere will be five more waiting to take their place. These stories get around-until these things change, I suspect the shortage will continue.

Well SOCIAL MEDIA is INFORMING the prospective NEW entrants to this crap business what its like. Yes all lies and deceipt..like most of corp America. Lying cheating thieves..so greedy for moey.
Yep..truckin dont Pay much for all the time ur gonna spend sittin out in the wilderness. 24/7 for 14 days usually. "Home" or 2 days. Your wife will leave you. Freight will vary so you will only Gross..maybe $30k with many carriers...they "TALK" about big money...but usually its not happening.
What Does happen is cops see you as a Cash Cow and cant wait to write you FAT citations $200-$5000.
Really enjoyable stuff. It is no picnic these days. USED TO be kind of fun..not TODAY. Dispatchers on your back 24/7...treating you like their personal "boy". Forget Trucking.

It's all about attitude.Going in with a bad attitude will keep you stressed out and at odds with the dispatcher who was hired by the BOSS to "Git Er Done". Throat cutting competition, high diesel prices, and the skyrocketing price of new equipment, tires and parts cuts into the bottom line. The dispatcher can be a XXXhole but if the job doesn't get done, and the company goes belly up, he's out of a job too. Looking back,if you had spent less time partying and more time getting an education, you would be sitting in an office and NOT in the cab of a rig. Peace Bro!!!!

You are Right!. I would recommend Education and NOT wasting away in a truck.
It s the Job OF CHOICE for IMIGRNUTS..It has gotten rediculous. Stay Home and get training in something SENSIBLE..since Trucking requires all this expensive "schooling"...Spend ur time and Money Training for a job you will be Happy with.
Trucking is basically a piss off. "Attitude" is just telling yourslf that your idiot truck job is NOT a piece of CRAP.

Better pay, benefits and working conditions might attract better drivers. Until that happens, people will continue to prefer better jobs than driving.

YEA RIGHT!!!! Too many people want in on the middle of the ladder instead of working their way up. We've raised a generation of want it all NOW!!!Their foggy dreams of how their parents lived, are sometimes overshadowed by what it took for their parents to get to their point of present comfort.

If minimum wage had kept pace with what it was in our parents day, it would be in the $13-14 range. People don't want a free ride, they want fairness and living wages.

Minimum wage is your starting point, not your final destination. If anyone is going to sit on their ass and not put something into their future like futher education, trade school,in house advancement courses,or night classes for a GED or college, then you deserve to remain on the bottom rung of the ladder. You're asking for "entitlements "or a "living wage" like the welfare crowds want. We are also raising a generation that want what their parents busted their asses for, saved money, did without the frills, put their self centered offspring through school only to have them want more, more, more, now, now, now!

Minimum wage is a starting point, but when it is so low, those who have worked hard to improve their skills also suffer from the low pay scale. Republicans want to destroy unions so that it becomes everyone for himself alone and they can work people harder for slave wages.

Wake up!!! When you hire in,you're a blank piece of paper to a company. You have to be able to be trained to be an asset to the productivity of said company whether it's a burger joint or a high tech company. Contrary to what you may believe, the world does not owe you a living . What you put in is what you get out! Your BS that Republicans want to destroy unions is something from your imagination. If anything,it would be a move to get the unions to realize that they have to get rid of their deadwood, slackers, sluggards,an d unproductive people if their fasctories are going to remain in this country. The American consumer doesn't care where or how their products are made so the unions have to get off their dead asses and get competitive or fall by the wayside.

I live with the realities of the real world. Gone are the days of graduating high school, getting on at a factory and pushing a button for forty years and retiring with a pension. You have to control your future or stand by the wayside and be envious of those who pass you by.

I think that most people in our parent's generation worked harder than that.

I also live with the realities, but also the knowledge that things can change if enough people stand up and have the courage to demand change.

I have been extremely lucky to have an excellent public school education (NOT in Alabama) that prepared me for one of the best universities in the country. I understand that not everyone has had the same opportunities that I have and believe that the solution is to help them, not hit them when they are down.

Most places have well-defined job descriptions. Are you complaining that they are not doing your job for you? If they did, you would not have a job.

I did not intend to sound mean, but this is why working people join unions. It is much easier to stand up as a group and demand fairness than as an individual, which is why Republicans, and Alabama, oppose unions.

Why is it MY job to unload YOUR groceries? YOU own a warehouse and forklifts...getthe crap out of my trailer and let the driver do HIS job which is Hauling Freight.
Why would you tie up an 18 wheeler and driver for 4 hours to do YOUR job....as warehouse dock man...ya UNLOAD FREIGHT! Not the
DRIVER...look at the word DRIVER..get it....nothing about
dock boy.

Have you called a manager at one of these places to determine whose job it is?

Have you checked with your own manager to determine whose job it is?

Also, check with your manager to determine the action to take if it is their job and they won't do it.

Don't just complain here, do something about it.
