What crimes did the other ethnic groups do? You ever heard of Russification, the Holodmor? No wonder many Ukrainians joined the Nazis, but 5 million Ukrainian citizens perished under Nazi occupation. You do know there was also a special legion for Russians in the Wehrmacht?

Yeah, the Soviets did help against Japan, but literally in the last few weeks of the war, when the fate of Japan was already sealed.
How many Soviet Premiers were ethnically Russian? lol. So you think only Russians were communists? Only Russians committed any crimes?

SHUT UP ABOUT HOLODOMOR. The only people who bring it up are the west Ukrainian diaspora.

See Ukraine now?

See Ukraine in 1933 during the famine?

Where is western Ukraine?

IN POLAND!!

Western Ukrainians welcome the Nazis with open arms, then proceeded to whack their Polish and Jewish neighbors.

As for the rest of Ukraine (east), where there really was a famine, it's hard to tell what, if anything, was done on purpose. I suppose they could even make a case against the US, since we had a severe drought here at the same time. They called it the "Dust Bowl"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_Bowl

The Soviets needed to sell gold, we needed to buy grain. We refused to buy their gold, only their grain.

Besides, it didn't just affect Ukraine. That's another lie they tell.

How many Russians were killed in concentration camps? Did you know they practiced that gassing on Russia and Polish prisoners first?

Hmm, I don't know where you got your info about Japan's fate being sealed, but according to all US history books (and articles), we sent 2 atomic bombs because we were afraid it would take years and many, many more lives to win against the Japanese. We pretty sure we'd have to fight "door to door, room to room". The Japanese are so stubborn!

No, I didn't say anything about Russians did I ? I was asking which ethnic group(s) aside from the Russians did you specifically mean?

If Western Ukraine was in Poland, then why would the Western Ukrainians be moaning? Here is a map of the Ukrainian SSR at the time- nothing to do with Galicia, in fact it was the eastern regions that were hit the worst:

Yeah, I know what the Western Ukrainians did.

By 'fate was sealed' I meant that the A-Bombs were ready by July 1945, The Soviets didn't start their campaign in Manchuria until August.

You said "Russification".
They 'moan' about it because they're lying, manipulative, hateful pieces of crap. But whatever, sorry I 'yelled'. It's just frustrating.
Soviets were I think 2 or 3 days away when we dropped the bombs? Or had left to invade Japan 2 or 3 days before. Something like that. Anyway, it's the thought that counts! But besides that, the Japanese emperor surrendered out of fear of a Soviet invasion, not because of the bombs.

They attacked Manchuria- the bit of China under Japanese occupation, it was agreed that any invasion of Japan (apart from some Islands just off the coast of Russia, taken after the Russo-Japanese war) would be left to the Americans. The main reasons why the Japanese surrendered was because it was surrounded, its population starving and the threat of more A-Bombs, Truman said the next lot of A-Bombs would be ready by September and October.

I mean think about it, would you be more scared of a Soviet invasion that you would at least have a chance of resisting or having nukes dropped over your head? What's your preference, being melted into a pillar of dust in seconds or slowly dying of radiation poisoning or cancer/tumours caused by the radiation?

I'm going by what the Japanese Emperor said. I think he would know more about it than you or I.

We dropped the first bomb and they did nothing. We dropped the second one and some of their senior military officers still refused to surrender and the Emperor wanted to negotiate terms! We were getting a third bomb ready when they gave in.

Enough. This is off topic.

Serbia won WW1. God Bless Serbia!

<quoted text>Haha I usually do say "Soviet Union" because too many people pin everything bad on the Russians alone, not giving any 'credit' for the bad stuff to all the other ethnic groups who are often FAR more responsible for crimes under the SU.
But we're talking about WW2 and yes, I do give Russia more credit than the others because they deserve more credit. Western Ukrainians were Nazis, a lot of Crimean Tatars were collaborators, etc
66% of Soviet casualties were Russian.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_cas...
I don't underestimate the Allies, especially not the UK. But the US even asked the Soviets for help with Japan! We sent over 2 very large bombs right before they got there.
The thing is, people constantly overestimate the west, giving them too much credit, and underestimate the Russians. I think that's a very big mistake.
