Hey Rodney, The name sounds familiar. I was in 1st Platoon and worked in the F&E, engine rebuild section. Am facebook friends with William Morris who was also in supply. Also am in touch with several others from the 88th that were there in 66-68 time frame.

Hello Howard I think I remember you. I too was stationed in the 88th H.E.M. Co. I worked down stairs in unit supply. I sometimes drove the supply truck and took care of the field gear. I was there from 1967-1969. I have a lot of good there. I went back to Pioneer Kasern last year. It was sad to see it closed and weeds grown up around it. My girl friend is from Buch, Germany about 1 1/2 hours from Hanau and I have been back to Germany many times with her and going again this May.

Oh yes! Shortimer's calender. Waiting for your clearing papers! Being on "sham" status 2-4 weeks out. Yes, I counted down the days to PCS. Hanau was great but I wanted stateside badly too.
I remember the numbered boxes to the airplane and when I was there 78-81 freebird was our song, " 2 digit midget" the little curtain clip you hung on your uniform to show you were a shortimer, and sham we did.

I was at the same place, same time, ets'd Feb '71 and did the same thing as you - we didn't go to the field, we went to the Kasernes, Fulda, Giessen, Baumholder were my territory - one exception, I never lost anyone's records - How'd you manage to lose personnel records? Kind of hard to do when they were i nthe cabinets.
I'm trying to place you but am drawing a blank.

Not all germans think that way. Believe me: There are a lot who wished the Army would be still there.

Germany will always be my second home. What cracks me up is that all the Germans used to say Ami go home. Now they want us back. Oh well they will find something else to bitch about. That is the German way. I love you grouchy Germans.

I was at Francois Kaserne on Lamboystrasse from 1988-1989. I was in HHB as a 31C. Anyone else there at that time? I actually lived off the Kaserne in the latter part of '89 in downtown Hanau in a small apartment.

I was there Woolery in 88 and 89 as a 31C, communications just like you. I had a SGT Marty Simpson that I reported to in COMSEC.

Across the street from guard shack was a row of shops. The Hamburger Station, a southern chicken place (where I used to set the high score playing Rolling Thunder listening to whitesnake on the video juke box), the place we got our uniforms pressed and tonys pizza.
Tonys was my favorite. I ate there alot, usually the lasagna with a cappys orange juice. I remember talking with the barkeep and at one time he showed me a picture of his uncle and said he was in the mafia in Italy and gave them the money to start up.
Another time I went there with several friends when I turned 21. We were lining up shots and he asked what we were celebrating. I said it was my birthday and was now legal to drink (meaning in the states).
He laughed and said he would serve anyone who could walk up to the bar.
Those were good times, we were all so young.

I was stationed with the 589th Engineer Supply Co,in 1956-1959.At the Pioneer Kaserne. It was the best time of my young life,I was in the motor pool, drove a 5ton tractor-trailor when we were out in the field, but times after work was the best, the Jolly Bar for one and others, too many to remember. Good times had by all. I see that the Pioneer Kaserne is now closed, sorry to hear that, still many good memories from my time spent there. I would enjoy hearing from anyone from there and maybe the same time, most are long gone, but drop me a line and we can chat. My email address is coachjp1@gmail.com I took coach from my time coaching hockey from 1965-2005, until I retired. Until then I hope to hear from someone from the Pioneer, I hope.!!!

I lived on Pioneer almost the whole time I was stationed in Germany. I have missed my home in Germany for many years now. That is where my baby girl was born and lived the first years of her life. I have always wished to return one day. It sad to think no one lives or works on the kaserne.

I served with the 42nd Trans.1967-1969.
I was a Spec.5 and had a 66 GTO yellow with a black vinyl top.
I ran the hydraulic shop and would love to hear from anyone that was there during that time.

I lived in Sportsfield Bldg 229. Went to school there from 70-80 and finally moved stateside 1995. I used to hang out at the end of Pioneer in Pioneer woods. Do you remember when it was party central before the MP's and Polizei cut down the tire tree and backhoed the island in the middle of the Kinzig. Spent many years having fun in Pioneer woods.
